The No. 7 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team came back from two sets down on the road Wednesday night to clinch the program's league-leading 17th Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season championship with a 17-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-8 triumph at UW-Oshkosh.

The Warhawks (21-3 overall, 6-0 WIAC), who extended their active win streak to 15 matches, also earn the No. 1 seed in the WIAC Tournament, which begins Nov. 5.

Senior outside hitter Rachel Butterfield (Milton, Wis./Milton) led UW-Whitewater with 14 kills, six blocks and two digs. Freshman outside hitter Chloe Buescher (Janesville, Wis./Milton) registered 12 kills, seven blocks, five digs and one service ace, and sophomore outside hitter Erin McNeil (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) tallied 11 kills, two blocks and two digs.

Sophomore setter KellyAnn Sotiros (New Berlin, Wis./West Allis Hale) posted a double-double with 24 assists, 15 digs and three service aces, and freshman outside hitter Johni Bunkers (Wildwood, Mo./St. Joseph's Academy) contributed seven kills in the effort.

UW-Oshkosh (19-7, 4-2) took control of the opening set midway through with a 7-1 run, turning a 12-12 tie into a 19-13 advantage. The Titans proceeded to score five of the last seven points in the frame.

UW-Whitewater jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the second, but UW-Oshkosh chipped away and eventually tied the set at 14-14, forcing a Warhawk timeout. After UW-W forged a 20-20 tie with two straight points, the Titans scored five of the last seven points again to take a 2-0 match lead.

The two teams traded runs in the third set, which eventually became tied, 20-20. From there, the Warhawks tallied five of the next six points, highlighted by kills from Bunkers, McNeil and Butterfield, to force a fourth set.

UW-Whitewater led 9-2 in the fourth, but UW-Oshkosh hung around despite never leading in the period. The Warhawks leveled the match at 2-2 on their third set point.

The Warhawks sprinted to a 6-1 advantage in the fifth set on kills from Butterfield and Aske and a block by Butterfield and Buescher. The Titans never got closer than four points the rest of the way as UW-Whitewater earned the road win.
