The No. 7 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team used a strong start Wednesday night to extend its win streak to 13 matches with a 25-10, 19-25, 25-16, 25-20 triumph at Concordia Wisconsin in a non-conference match in Mequon, Wis.
The Warhawks (19-3 overall) did not commit an attack error in the first set and hit .290 for the period. The team sprinted out to an 8-1 advantage and claimed the final five points of the set to take a 1-0 match lead.
The Falcons (15-6) flipped the script on UW-Whitewater in the second set, pushing out to a 14-8 advantage. The two teams played even from there, allowing CUW to tie the match at 1-1.
The Warhawks started the third set much like they did the first, this time by a 10-1 margin. The Falcons got as close as six points, but UW-Whitewater continued to control the frame on its way to a 2-1 match lead.
Concordia Wisconsin led 7-2 in the fourth set before the Warhawks embarked on an 8-1 run to lead 10-8. With the set tied at 13-13, UW-Whitewater scored the next five points to take control before the Falcons closed to within 23-20, forcing a UW-W timeout.
The Warhawks ended the match on back-to-back kills by freshman outside hitter
Chloe Buescher (Janesville, Wis./Milton) and senior outside hitter
Rachel Butterfield (Milton, Wis./Milton).
Buescher led the offense with her eighth double-double of the season, totaling 14 kills, 12 digs and five blocks. Senior middle hitter
Ashton Doll (Lancaster, Wis./Lancaster) collected 11 kills on a .455 hitting percentage and added four blocks, and Butterfield registered nine kills on a .474 hitting percentage.
Freshman setter
Maggie Streckert (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) posted 26 assists, two kills, two digs and two blocks, while sophomore setter
KellyAnn Sotiros (New Berlin, Wis./West Allis Hale) contributed 13 assists and four digs. Sophomore outside hitter
Emma Aske (Aurora, Ill./Metea Valley) recorded 11 digs, two kills and three service aces.
Freshman libero
Morgan Jensen (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) finished with 24 digs and four service aces, and sophomore defensive specialist
Hailey Mackenthun (Webster, Minn./Northfield) tallied 17 digs and four service aces.
UW-Whitewater returns to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Friday at 7 p.m. at UW-River Falls.
