The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team plays its first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference road game this Saturday, Oct. 19, at UW-Stevens Point at 1 p.m. at Community Stadium at Goerke Park.

The Warhawks held the ball for more than 36 minutes and took the lead for good with 11:03 to play in the fourth quarter last Saturday for a 21-14 victory over then-No. 19 UW-Platteville on Homecoming at Perkins Stadium. UW-Whitewater recorded season highs in total offense (513 yards) and rushing yards (376) while holding the Pioneers to only 19 rushing yards on 18 attempts.
The Warhawks remained at No. 3 in the D3football.com Top 25, earning 564 points from pollsters, and at No. 3 in the American Football Coaches Association Division III Coaches Poll, garnering 1,187 points. UW-Whitewater trails only No. 1 Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas) and No. 2 Mount Union (Ohio) in both polls. The Warhawks were ranked fourth by Lindy's, Street & Smith and D3football.com entering the new season.
UW-Stevens Point, which was picked to finish sixth in the WIAC in a preseason poll, out-gained UW-Oshkosh 303-230 in total yards but committed two turnovers and was held to a 2-of-14 conversion rate on third down in a 20-7 road loss. Matt Urmanski finished with 251 yards passing, and ShamaJ Williams tallied 58 yards and one touchdown on the ground. Berkley Corvino led the Pointers' defense with 12 tackles, including four for a loss.
SERIES
UW-Whitewater leads the all-time series against UW-Stevens Point, 67-31, and has won the last six meetings between the two teams, including a 59-7 triumph on Nov. 3, 2018, in Stevens Point. The Warhawks finished with 565 total offensive yards, including 305 through the air, and converted 10-of-14 third-down chances. Cole Wilber (Mission Viejo, Calif./Dana Hills) passed for 228 yards and three tocuhdowns to lead the offense, while Justin Hansen (Beloit, Wis./Turner) paced the defense with two sacks.
NOTABLE
- At the midway point of the season, the Warhawks lead the WIAC and rank 23rd in the nation in scoring defense, allowing only 13.0 points per contest.
- Last Saturday's attendance at the UW-Platteville/UW-Whitewater football game was 12,402, the fourth-highest on record in the history of Perkins Stadium. The Warhawks currently lead the nation in both cumulative attendance (32.540) and average attendance (10,847) at home games. UW-Whitewater's average attendance is higher than the cumulative attendance for all but 12 other NCAA Division III institutions.
