The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team plays its 2018 home opener this Saturday, Sept. 8, against Concordia Moorhead, a member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, for a non-conference affair at 1 p.m. A pre-game concert featuring national country recording artist Eric Paslay will kickoff the 2018 Warhawk Concert Series at 11 a.m. in the Perkins Stadium parking lot (Lot 24).


Saturday's game can be viewed live on UWW-TV on channel 100.1 on campus, on Spectrum channel 989 in the Whitewater area or online. It can be heard live on KOOL 106.5 FM WKCH in the Whitewater area or online at 940wfaw.com. Fans are also invited to track live statistics.

The Warhawks outgained Dubuque (Iowa) 399-186 in total yardage last Saturday in a 38-6 season-opening victory on the road. UW-Whitewater tallied 31 unanswered points over the final three quarters, converted all five scoring opportunities in the red zone and finished 10-of-17 on third-down conversions in the contest.

The Warhawks held steady at No. 12 in the latest D3football.com Top 25. UW-Whitewater garnered 357 points from poll voters, up from 322 the previous week. The Warhawks were ranked sixth by Street & Smith entering the 2018 season.

Concordia Moorhead is predicted to finish third in the MIAC based on a preseason coaches poll conducted by the conference. The Cobbers started the 2018 season last Saturday with a 28-3 triumph over Nebraska Wesleyan, piling up 373 rushing yards on 6.5 yards per carry while holding Nebraska Wesleyan to 195 yards of offense. Rylie Sheridan led the rushing attack with 128 yards, while Andrew Thompson paced the defense with six tackles.

SERIES

In the only meeting between the two teams, Concordia Moorhead grabbed an early 10-0 lead and held on for a 25-17 win over UW-Whitewater on Sept. 9, 2017, in Moorhead. Cole Wilber (Mission Viejo, Calif./Dana Hills) passed for 241 yards and two touchdowns and Jarrod Ware (Bradley, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) caught nine passes for 123 yards and one score, and Bryce Leszczynski (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) collected a school-record 17 tackles to lead the defense.

NOTABLE

  • The Warhawks are 95-4 at Perkins Stadium over the last 13 years, good for a .960 winning percentage. The team has won 26 consecutive regular season home games entering today's contest.
  • UW-Whitewater's first-ever Warhawk Concert Series begins Saturday at 11 a.m. Two nationally-touring acts and two regionally-touring acts will entertain fans two hours prior to kickoff in the Perkins Stadium Parking Lot (Lot 24). All fans are invited to attend the concert free of charge. The event is sponsored by UW-Whitewater Intercollegiate Athletics, First Year Experience, Career and Leadership Development, University Housing, University Center an Dining and the 150th Committee.
