The No. 10 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team rolled up 554 yards of total offense and pitched a shutout defensively Saturday in a 73-0 victory over Middle Georgia State in front of 5,242 fans in a non-conference contest at Perkins Stadium.
 
The Warhawks (3-0 overall) totaled nearly 500 yards more than the Knights, holding Middle Georgia State (0-1) to 55 yards and posting 56 first-half points. The team's scoring output was its largest since 2006, when it scored 75 against Lakeland, and the largest margin of victory since 1900.
 
Senior quarterback Cole Wilber (Mission Viejo, Calif./Dana Hills) registered 167 yards passing with two touchdowns, and sophomore running back Alex Peete (Ringwood, Ill./Johnsburg) finished with 12 carries for 93 yards and two touchdowns to lead the offense. Ten different receivers caught passes in the affair.
 
Sophomore defensive back Teddy Orlando (Oconomowoc, Wis./Arrowhead Union) paced the defense with five tackles. Senior defensive lineman David O'Gorman (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) and senior linebacker Alex Zacharias (Stoughton, Wis./Stoughton) each recorded safeties in the first quarter, with O'Gorman's being the program's first since 2013.
 
Peete was the first to find the end zone, scampering in from six yards out with 11:28 left in the first quarter to make it 9-0.
 
After Zacharias' safety, Wilber hit sophomore wide receiver Ryan Wisniewski (Sparta, Wis./Sparta) for a 44-yard catch-and-run touchdown with 10:05 remaining in the quarter. Two minutes later, Wilber found senior wide receiver Mitchell Dess (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) in the corner from 19 yards out to make it 25-0.
 
Peete and junior running back Ronny Ponick (Stanley, Wis./Stanley-Boyd) each scored in the second quarter to open scoring in the period, and junior wide receiver Andy Cooper (Munising, Mich./Munising) caught a 36-yard touchdown from sophomore quarterback Zach Oles (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) to make it 46-0 midway through the frame.
 
Sophomore kicker Wojciech Gasienica (Norridge, Ill./Ridgewood) knocked a 22-yard field goal through the uprights with less than two minutes to go in the first half, and junior defensive back Tommy Matoska (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Kenosha Tremper) brought an interception back 22 yards for a touchdown to boost the lead to 56-0.
 
Freshman Zach Lichosik (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) hit a 32-yard field goal, the first of his career, and freshman quarterback Brennan Demark (Waukesha, Wis./North) took a keeper in from 18 yards out to cap scoring in the third quarter.
 
Freshman running back Nyrel Sullivan (Sterling, Ill./Sterling) closed the scoring with a 10-yard run at the 6:30 mark of the fourth quarter.
 
After a bye week, UW-Whitewater visits No. 23 UW-La Crosse to open Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Kickoff on Saturday, Sept. 29, is set for 4 p.m. in La Crosse.
