The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's tennis teams continued play in Hilton Head Island, S.C., on Monday, and each team won both of its duals on the day.

The No. 32 ranked Warhawk women (12-3) defeated Erskine (S.C.) (4-11) 9-0 in their afternoon game, before defeating Coastal Georgia (4-12) 5-1 in the nightcap.  The dual against Coastal Georgia was played to decision.  Meanwhile, the Warhawk men (12-5) edged out Erskine (0-18) 5-4 in their first game on the day, then defeated St. Olaf (2-3) 7-2 in the evening.

The women started off in singles against Erskine and controlled the dual from start to finish, sweeping their opponents in straight sets.  Junior Julie Martin (Morton, Ill./Morton) put together a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the fourth singles slot, while junior Gabi Kitchell (Wausau, Wis./D.C. Everest) led the way with a 6-4, 6-0 win in the first match.  In doubles, seniors Bridgid McGuire (Slinger/Slinger) and Jillian Wallace (Crystal Lake, IL/Central) claimed the first slot in an 8-6 affair.

Against Coastal Georgia, the women started in doubles.  Martin and freshmen Sabrina Palavra (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) emerged victorious in the second match in an 8-7 (7-3) victory, allowing the Warhawk women to sweep the doubles matches.  In singles, senior Alexandra Talyansky (Mequon/Homestead) started out with a point in the no. 2 match, before Kitchell clinched the match and finished off the day with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the no. 1 slot.

The men began their first match of the day versus Erskine in singles.  The Warhawks split the singles matches.   In the no. 2 match, and junior Jimmy Engelhart (Brookfield, Wis./East) battled back after a first set loss to claim a crucial point 5-7, 7-5, 10-6.  Freshman Robert Rider (Annapolis, Md./South River) controlled the fifth slot all the way to another point with a 6-0, 6-0 victory, while sophomore Lucas Monterroso (Montevideo, Uruguay/Colegio Jesus Maria) took the third match 6-3, 7-6.  Heading into doubles tied, the Warhawk men split the first two doubles matches, with senior Grant Thompson (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Lake Zurich) and Monteresso notching a point in the second match.  It all came down to sophomores Zach Wood (Downers Grove, Ill./South)  and Matthew Primozic (Elkhart Lake, Wis./Plymouth) in the no. 3 slot, and they emerged with a 8-3 victory for the match.

The men continued play into the evening, facing off against St. Olaf (Minn.).  Starting in doubles, Engelhart and senior Zane Navratil (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) battled hard but lost in the no. 1 slot in a 9-8 (10-8) battle.  The Warhawks rebounded in the second and third sets to head into singles with a 2-1 lead.  The Warhawks took control of the dual, winning all but the first slot in singles. Brandon Dechter (Mundelein, Ill./Carmel Catholic) clinched the match for the men in straight sets.  Senior Matt Zurowski (West Bend, Wis./East)  found himself down early in the no. 5 match, but battled back to win in straight sets 7-5, 7-5 to round out the night for the men.

The Warhawks will be back in action Wednesday to finish their Spring Trip in Hilton Head Island, S.C.  Both teams play against DePauw (Ind.) starting at 11 a.m. Central time.
