Warhawks Split Doubleheader

The No. 3 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team defeated Keuka, 13-0, and fell against St. Olaf, 6-3, on Monday at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla.
 
In the first game, the Warhawks (6-1) forced the game to end after seven innings by run rule and registered 15 hits compared to just four from Keuka.
 
Senior pitcher Heath Renz (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) tossed for six innings and tallied seven strikeouts.  Freshman pitcher Weston Muir finished out the game for UW-Whitewater, recording a strike out and only allowing one hit.
 
Junior short stop Nick Schrader (Cambridge, Wis./Jefferson) was 3-for-3 at bat and recorded three runs batted in and one run scored.  Senior third basemen Cal Aldridge (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) posted two hits, three RBI and one run in the game.
 
In the second inning, an Aldridge single sent senior centerfielder Daytona Bryden (Rockton, IL/Hononegah) in to make the score 3-0.
 
The Warhawks scored five runs in the fifth inning, including a triple by Schrader that sent in three runners.
 
Keuka (4-5) had five errors in the game compared to just one by UW-Whitewater.
 
In the second game, St. Olaf (7-6) scored four times in the second inning and maintained its lead throughout the game as UW-Whitewater stranded 10 baserunners.
 
Senior pitcher Austin Jones (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) tossed the first six innings and was dealt the loss, and sophomore pitcher Riley Gruetzmacher (Oconto Falls, Wis./Oconto Falls) tossed the last three frames.
 
Aldridge collected two hits and one run in the contest, and Schrader added two hits.
 
UW-Whitewater tallied hits in the sixth and seventh innings and scored two runs in the eighth inning, but were unable to take the lead.
 
The Warhawks wrap up play in Auburndale, Fla., Tuesday against St. Thomas (Minn.) at 10 a.m. Central Time.
