The No. 10 University of Wisconsin- Whitewater softball posted two wins on Sunday in Clermont, Fla., including a 6-3 victory over Tufts (Mass.) and a 10-2 victory in six innings over Wellesley (Mass.).
Against Tufts (11-4), the Warhawks scored four runs in the fourth inning and held the lead for good.
Sophomore outfielder
Megan Schweitzer (Appleton, Wis./East) was 5-for-5 at bat and scored two runs, while senior outfielder
Mallory Klotz (New Berlin, Wis./West) added two hits and two runs for UW-Whitewater (5-3).
Junior pitcher
Julia Camardo (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) tossed a complete game and struck out three for the Warhawks to improve to 3-0 on the season.
In the second game, UW-Whitewater forced the game to end after six innings by run rule, outhitting Wellesley, 15-4.
The Warhawks were held scoreless for the first two innings, but responded with four runs in the third inning followed by three runs in the fourth.
Freshman pitcher
Makena Creekmore (Beach Park, Ill./Zion-Benton Township) tossed a complete game and struck out three batters. She improved to 1-0 on the season.
Sophomore catcher
Nicole Neitzel (Verona, Wis./Verona Area) was 3-for-3 at the plate and registered two runs for UW-Whitewater.
A double by Klotz in the third inning brought in two runs for the Warhawks followed by an error from Wellesley (1-5), which turned into a run by Klotz.
After a double from Neitzel in the fourth inning, senior second basemen
Michayla Swanson (Randolph, Wis./Randolph) registered a single to right field, which brought in Neitzel.
The Warhawks took advantage of two Wellesley errors in the fifth inning to plate two more runs, and the game ended in the sixth after sophomore
Dani Biesiada (Lisle, Ill./Naperville North) brought home freshman
Taylor Briehl (Spring Green, Wis./River Valley) with a fielder's choice ground ball.
