The No. 38 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team won its first dual of the season, downing Concordia (Wis.) 8-1 at Premier Tennis & Fitness in Janesville.
The Warhawks (1-2 overall) swept all three doubles matches and dropped one singles match on their way to victory against Concordia (Wis.) (1-2).
Sophomores
Zach Wood (Downers Grove, Ill./South) and
Lucas Monterroso (Montevideo, Uruguay/Colegio Jesus Maria) teamed up to win No. 3 doubles in 8-0, while senior
Zane Navratil (Racine, Wis. / The Prairie School) and junior
Jimmy Engelhart (Brookfield, Wis./East) followed up with a 8-5 win in the No. 1 slot. Senior
Matt Zurowski (West Bend, Wis. / East) and junior
Brandon Dechter (Mundelein, Ill./Carmel Catholic) rounded out the doubles sweep with another 8-5 victory in the second position.
In singles, Monterroso and Wood followed up their doubles shut out with Nos. 5 and 6 victories respectively, dropping only three games between the two of them. Zurowski continued the streak of convincing victories, dropping a lone game in the No. 4 match, while Dechter swept all games in his victory in the No. 3 singles match.
Navratil added on a first position singles victory afterwards, before Engelhardt dropped the last match of the day in the No. 2 slot in a 10-5 tiebreaker set.
UW-Whitewater hosts a double header at Premier Tennis and Fitness against Carroll College and Millikin (Ill.). The men play Carroll College at 11:30 a.m. and Millikin (Ill.) at 3:30 p.m.
