The No. 5 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team wraps up the regular season this Saturday, Nov. 10, at UW-Platteville in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at 1 p.m. for the annual George Chryst Memorial Bowl.

Saturday's game can be heard live on KOOL 106.5 FM WKCH in the Whitewater area or online at 940wfaw.com. Fans can also view the game online and follow live statistics.

Last Saturday, the Warhawks sealed the WIAC championship outright with a 59-7 triumph over UW-Stevens Point. UW-Whitewater tallied a season-high 565 yards of total offense, including a season-best 305 yards through the air. The Warhawks held the Pointers to 60 yards rushing and a 2-of-14 conversion rate on fourth down.

The Warhawks remained at No. 4 in the latest American Football Coaches Association Division III Coaches' Poll and held steady at No. 5 in the latest D3football.com Top 25. UW-Whitewater garnered 539 points from D3football.com voters, only five points shy of No. 4 St. John's, and 1119 points from AFCA pollsters. The Warhawks were ranked sixth by Street & Smith entering the 2018 season.

UW-Platteville held a one-point lead in the final minute last Saturday, but UW-Stout drove 76 yards in 14 plays and scored the go-ahead touchdown with four seconds remaining as the Pioneers suffered their fourth straight loss, 38-33, in Menomonie. UW-Platteville held a 26-21 lead heading into the fourth quarter before the Blue Devils closed with 17 fourth-quarter points.

SERIES

UW-Whitewater leads the all-time series against UW-Platteville, 82-24-4, and has won the last 13 meetings between the two teams. Last season, the Warhawks tallied 17 third-quarter points and held on in the fourth quarter, stopping the Pioneers near midfield on a potential go-ahead drive. Cole Wilber (Mission Viejo, Calif./Dana Hills) passed for 167 yards, and Nate Tranel (Lancaster, Wis./Lancaster) led the defense with nine tackles, including the tackle on UW-Platteville's final offensive play.

NOTABLE

  • The Warhawks seek the program's 19th undefeated regular season in program history and ninth in the last 14 years. UW-W most recently finished the regular season with an unblemished mark in 2016, when it claimed the league title and reached the NCAA quarterfinals.
  • The George Chryst Memorial Bowl is named after former UW-Platteville head coach George Chryst, who passed away suddenly in 1992 after leading the Pioneers to a 79-60-2 record and the 1980 conference championship. The rivalry game was dedicated in 1993 and the Miner's Axe became the rivalry trophy. Following the game, Chryst's wife, Patty, will present the winning team with the Axe and recognize the Offensive and Defensive Most Valuable players from each team. The Warhawks have won 23 of the 25 George Chryst Bowl games. UW-Platteville claimed the Axe in 2001 and 2004.
