Four different players scored in a University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer 4-0 victory over Rockford University Sunday evening at Fiskum Field in Whitewater.
Â
The Warhawks, 6-4-1, upended the visiting Regents, 7-7-1, with a balanced attack and a team effort. Twenty-two players saw the field, including three different goalies, as the Warhawks scored four first half goals to cruise to victory.
Â
A corner kick by
Kyle Clancy (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) initiated the scoring sequence on the first goal. His corner was headed by
Jack Wirth (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee), but Wirth's shot was deflected to
Garrett Morgando (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) who knocked it in for a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute.
Â
Thirty-seven seconds later
Henry Raymonds (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East) fed
Joey Pumo (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha North) to give UW-W a two goal advantage.
Â
UW-W earned a free kick just outside the box in the 36th minute, and Wirth ripped a scorcher into the net that barely allowed the defense or goalie a moment to react. The goal is Wirth's sixth of the season.
Â
Hozai Ceballos (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) wrapped up the scoring with his team-leading seventh goal of the year to make it 4-0 in the 42nd minute of play.
Â
The Warhawks outshot the Regents 17-7 in the match, including 8-2 on goal.
Â
Jake King (McHenry, Ill./McHenry West) started and played the entire first half, making one save, to earn the win and move to 3-0 this season.
Â
Toney Anderson (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) and
Jason Purlee (Byron Center, Mich./Byron Center) shared time in goal in the second half to complete the shutout.
Â
Up next, the Warhawks will host St. Norbert on Wednesday, October 10 in a match beginning at 4 p.m.
