The No. 5 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team concludes its regular season home schedule Saturday, Nov. 3, with a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game against UW-Stevens Point at 1 p.m. on Senior Day, Shriners Day and Military Appreciation Day at Perkins Stadium.

As part of Military Appreciation Day, all veterans with military ID will receive two complimentary tickets to the game. The Warhawks' 16 seniors will be recognized approximately 25 minutes prior to the start of the contest as part of Senior Day.

Last Saturday, the Warhawks clinched at least a share of the WIAC championship and punched their ticket to the NCAA Playoffs with a 40-10 triumph at UW-Stout. UW-Whitewater piled up 553 yards of total offense, including a season-high 354 yards on the ground, and held an opponent to 10 points or fewer for the ninth straight contest dating back to last season. UW-Whitewater clinched its 36th conference title and the league's automatic bid to the postseason after UW-Oshkosh was defeated at UW-Stevens Point.

The Warhawks remained at No. 4 in the latest American Football Coaches Association Division III Coaches' Poll and held steady at No. 5 in the latest D3football.com Top 25. UW-Whitewater garnered 534 points from D3football.com voters, only nine points shy of No. 4 St. John's, and 1118 points from AFCA pollsters. The Warhawks were ranked sixth by Street & Smith entering the 2018 season.

UW-Stevens Point scored 21 unanswered points between the 1:40 mark of the second quarter and the 13:42 mark of the fourth quarter and tallied an interception in the closing seconds last Saturday to pull off a 27-21 victory over then-No. 10 UW-Oshkosh. The Pointers forced four turnovers and held the Titans to a 2-for-5 conversion rate in the red zone.

SERIES

UW-Whitewater leads the all-time series against UW-Stevens Point, 66-31, and has won the last five meetings between the two teams. Last season, the Warhawks posted 505 total yards of offense and raced out to a 28-0 lead on their way to a 35-7 victory in Stevens Point. Cole Wilber (Mission Viejo, Calif./Dana Hills) passed for 265 yards and one touchdown to lead the offense, and Bryce Leszczynski (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) registered eight tackles and David O'Gorman (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) finished with 2.5 sacks to lead the defense.

NOTABLE

  • With a win Saturday, the Warhawks would clinch the WIAC championship outright.
  • This year's Shriner King is Carrick Gapinski, a 13-year-old eighth-grader who attends Whitewater Middle School. Carrick was born with an extra toe on his left foot that was removed in 2010 at Shriners Hospitals for Children in Chicago. Each year, UW-Whitewater recognizes a Shriner king or queen prior to its final home game. Shriners Hospitals for Children provides specialized care to children with orthopaedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate.
