No. 6 Football Blanks UW-Eau Claire

The No. 6 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team compiled 501 yards of total offense and recorded its second straight shutout and third in its last four games Saturday with a 45-0 triumph at UW-Eau Claire in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at Carson Park in Eau Claire.
 
The Warhawks (6-0 overall, 3-0 WIAC) rushed for 262 yards, converted 7-of-13 on third down and tallied 14 points each in the first, third and fourth quarters.
 
UW-Whitewater held the Blugolds (2-4, 0-3) to 164 total yards (2.4 yards per play) and 11 first downs in the affair.
 
Sophomore wide receiver Ryan Wisniewski (Sparta, Wis./Sparta) posted five receptions for 147 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore running back Alex Peete (Ringwood, Ill./Johnsburg) accounted for two touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving) and collected 14 carries for 100 yards.
 
Senior quarterback Cole Wilber (Mission Viejo, Calif./Dana Hills) passed for 239 yards and four touchdowns.
 
Senior linebacker Bryce Leszczynski (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) paced the defense with eight tackles. Senior linebacker Beau Martin (Winfield, Ill./Wheaton North) registered six tackles, including two for a loss, and junior defensive back Garrett Purdy (Naperville, Ill./Central) finished with five tackles.
 
The Warhawks stopped UW-Eau Claire on a three-and-out to start the game, and immediately capitalized as Wilber hit Wisniewski for a 51-yard score with 12:39 on the clock.
 
Later in the quarter, Wilber's 29-yard run on third-and-10 set up a three-yard touchdown run by Peete with 3:44 left in the quarter to make it 14-0.
 
Following an interception and 27-yard return by sophomore defensive back Mark McGrath (Lisle, Ill./Lisle), sophomore kicker Wojciech Gasienica (Norridge, Ill./Ridgewood) booted a 40-yard field goal with 9:42 remaining in the second quarter for a 17-0 lead.
 
UW-Whitewater opened the second half with an eight-play, 55-yard drive, capped by a seven-yard pass from Wilber to Peete with 12:09 on the clock.
 
After another defensive stop forced a punt, the Warhawks extended their lead to 31-0 as Wilber found Wisniewski for a 34-yard touchdown midway through the third quarter.
 
The duo connected again 20 seconds into the third quarter on a 50-yard strike for Wisniewski's fifth touchdown of the year.
 
Sophomore running back Preston Strasburg (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) accounted for the game's final score, posting a 20-yard touchdown run with five minutes to go in the contest.
 
UW-Whitewater returns home next Saturday, Oct. 20, to face UW-River Falls. Kickoff at Perkins Stadium is slated for 2 p.m. The Warhawks will celebrate Homecoming and induct its 2018 Athletics Hall of Fame class.
 
Prior to the game, The Mowgli's will perform at 12 p.m. in the Perkins Stadium parking lot as the final performance in the 2018 Warhawk Concert Series.
