The No. 6 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team begins the second half of the regular season Saturday with a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match-up at UW-Eau Claire on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 1 p.m. at Carson Park in Eau Claire.

Last Saturday, the Warhawks surrendered only 18 rushing yards on 36 carries and took a 13-0 halftime lead on their way to a 20-0 victory over 10th-ranked UW-Oshkosh. UW-Whitewater averaged 6.4 yards per play while holding the Titans to 2.8, and committed a season-low two penalties in the contest.
The Warhawks moved up two spots to No. 5 in the latest American Football Coaches Association Division III Coaches' Poll and jumped two positions to No. 6 in the latest D3football.com Top 25. UW-Whitewater garnered 502 points from D3football.com voters and 1078 points from AFCA pollsters. The Warhawks were ranked sixth by Street & Smith entering the 2018 season.
UW-Eau Claire scored on its first drive of the game but was held scoreless the rest of the way in a 9-3 setback against UW-Stevens Point at home last Saturday. The Blugolds tallied seven sacks and forced a pair of turnovers on defense, but were limited offensively due to a pair of missed field goals and a 2-for-6 conversion rate on fourth down.
SERIES
UW-Whitewater owns a 47-22 advantage in the all time series and has won the last 16 meetings between the two teams. Last season, the Warhawks surged to a 23-0 halftime lead and didn't let UW-Eau Claire back in the game in a 36-3 triumph on Nov. 11, 2017, at Perkins Stadium. UW-Whitewater totaled 392 yards of offense, forced three turnovers and held the Blugolds to 1-of-4 on fourth-down conversions. Wojciech Gasienica (Norridge, Ill./Ridgewood) kicked three field goals, including a 41-yarder in the second quarter. Bryce Leszczynski (Milwaukee, Wis./Pius XI) led the defense with 11 tackles.
NOTABLE
- In the last five meetings between the two teams, the Warhawks are averaging 48.2 points per game while allowing 2.4 points per contest. Over that span, UW-Whitewater has shut out UW-Eau Claire twice and allowed only one touchdown.
- The Warhawks' current 10-game winning streak entering Saturday's game is tied with Central (Iowa) for the second-longest in NCAA Division III. Mount Union leads the nation with a 20-game streak. (Note - UW-Whitewater's win over NCFA member Middle Georgia State does not count in official NCAA records.)
- Last Saturday's attendance of 11,628 at the UW-Oshkosh/UW-Whitewater game at Perkins Stadium is the largest of any single game in NCAA Division III this season. The Warhawks' attendance of 8,168 at Perkins Stadium against Concordia Moorhead on Sept. 8 is third.
