The No. 6 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team finished with a 2-1 record Friday to place seventh at the National Wrestling Coaches Association National Duals at Fort Wayne Convention Center in Fort Wayne, Ind.
 
The Warhawks (8-5 overall) downed No. 15 UW-La Crosse 23-18 to start the day before falling 21-15 against 11th-ranked Coe (Iowa).
 
UW-Whitewater rebounded with a 30-6 triumph over Olivet (Mich.) to close the day and finish the tournament with a 3-2 mark.
 
For the second straight day, sophomores Mike Tortorice (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel), Hazen Rice (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) and Devin Tortorice (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel) finished with unblemished records at 125, 133 and 141 pounds, respectively.
 
Mike Tortorice (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel), ranked 10th at 125 pounds by D3wrestle.com, contributed 13 points for the day with a pin against Coe's Brock Henderson, who is listed as a "Contender" by D3wrestle.com, a major decision over UW-La Crosse and a decision against Olivet.
 
Rice, ranked ninth by both the NWCA and D3wrestle.com at 133 pounds, turned in decisions in all three of his contests to improve to 12-4 on the year.
 
Devin Tortorice (Wauconda, Ill./Carmel), ranked sixth at 141 by D3wrestle.com, also posted three decisions, recording impressive wins over UW-La Crosse's Reid Johnson and Coe's Brady Ruden, who are both listed in the "Honorable Mention" category at 141 by D3wrestle.com.
 
Junior Nicholas Bonomo (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) registered a third-period pin against UW-La Crosse's Sawyer Massie, the nation's No. 7 wrestler according to D3wrestle.com, to help the Warhawks seal the victory over UW-La Crosse (7-3).
 
Senior Austin Quartullo (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) and junior Isaiah Vela (West Chicago, Ill./St. Charles East) each tallied their first of two wins on the day in the dual against the Eagles. Quartullo bested Kal Gerber in a 10-5 decision, and Vela earned four points with a 14-6 major decision over Michael Murnane.
 
Junior Nick Stencel (Oregon, Ohio/Clay) won each of his last two matches, collecting a 10-6 decision over Coe (7-4) and a 9-2 decision against Olivet.
 
Vela and sophomore Riley Kauzlaric (Coal City, Ill./Coal City) each posted pins to lead UW-Whitewater against Olivet (11-4).
 
Freshman Dylan Uzumecki (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) finished the Olivet dual with a 10-2 major decision at 285 pounds.
 
The Warhawks return to Indiana Saturday, Jan. 13, as they head to Manchester's Spartan Mat Classic in North Manchester. Competition begins at 8 a.m. Central Time.
