MENOMONIE, Wis. – The No. 12 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team tied UW-Stout 1-1 Saturday in their Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener.
UW-W is now 7-1-3 overall and 0-0-1 in league play, while the Blue Devils move to 3-4-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the WIAC.
The Warhawks applied their typical early pressure, but Blue Devil goalie Lynn Johnson made a save on
Anna Boyd (De Pere, Wis./De Pere)'s shot in the sixth minute.
Boyd fired two more shots in the tenth and 14th minutes but one flew wide and the other was saved.
Boyd finally put the Warhawks on the scoreboard in the 24th minute, scoring on a pass from senior
Morgan Beaty (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) to give the Warhawks a 1-0 lead.
Stout countered five minutes later with a shot on goal, but Warhawk keeper
Sara Klimisch (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail High School and Academy) was there to make the save.
The Warhawks came out of halftime with some fire, recording a shot in the 46th minute that sailed wide, and two in the 57th minute that were saved by Johnson.
UW-W continued to pepper the Blue Devil keeper with shots on goal in the 58th, 62nd, 64th, and 65th minutes, but Johnson stood strong.
Klimisch stopped a potential equalizer in the 66th minute, but four minutes later the Blue Devils tied the match.
Karina Rosales (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) nearly gave the Warhawks a 2-1 advantage with less than five minutes to play, but Johnson positioned herself properly to make the save and the match headed to overtime.
Johnson remained solid for the Blue Devils in overtime, making five more saves in the extra periods. The match ended in a 1-1 tie, snapping the Warhawks six-game winning streak over the Blue Devils.
