The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team opens its Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule this Saturday, Sept. 30, at 1 p.m. at third-ranked UW-Oshkosh.
Saturday's game will be televised live on Spectrum Sports (channel 1332) and streamed live online. The contest can be heard live locally on KOOL 106.5 FM WKCH or online at 940wfaw.com.
The Warhawks enter Saturday's contest following a bye week. On Sept. 16, UW-Whitewater earned its first victory of the season, a 40-21 triumph at Washington-St. Louis, in its regular season non-conference finale. The Warhawks tallies 27 fourth-quarter points, including 20 unanswered after trailing 14-13 entering the period. The team totaled a season-high 564 yards of offense and posted nine sacks defensively for a new a school record.Â
The Warhawks were ranked third in both Street & Smith's preseason national rankings and the D3football.com Preseason Top 25 and 15th in Lindy's Sports Division III Top 25. UW-Whitewater is receiving votes in the latest D3football.com Top 25 and the American Football Coaches Association Division III Coaches Poll.
UW-Oshkosh enters Saturday's game having not played since Sept. 9, when it downed Virginia Lynchburg 74-7 at J.J. Keller Field. The Titans scored points on offense, defense and special teams and piled up 498 yards of total offense, averaging 6.7 yards per play. UW-O completed 19-of-21 passes (90.5 completion percentage) and rushed for 269 yards.
SERIES
UW-Whitewater leads the all time series 76-28-5 and has won 13 of the last 15 meetings between the two teams. The Warhawks downed the Titans 17-14 on Oct. 8, 2016, in front of a then-national record 17,535 fans at Perkins Stadium. Drew Patterson (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) ran for a 16-yard touchdown on third down with 55 seconds to play to give UW-Whitewater the lead for good.

The Warhawks continue against WIAC competition and play their 2017 home opener next Saturday, Oct. 7, against No. 22 UW-Stout for Family Fest and Alumni Day at Perkins Stadium.
NOTABLE
- Five of the last seven games between UW-Whitewater and UW-Oshkosh have been decided by three points or fewer, including each of the last three. The combined cumulative score over that span is UW-Whitewater 129, UW-Oshkosh 119.
- The Warhawks have won their last 15 WIAC openers, with the last loss coming against UW-River Falls by a 34-31 score on Sept. 29, 2001, at Perkins Stadium. The last two have come against UW-Platteville, which was nationally ranked in each season.
