Baseball’s Win Streak Snapped

The No. 3 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team suffered its first loss in the month of April on Tuesday afternoon, falling against Concordia (Wis.) in a non-conference affair at Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium.

Senior second baseman Steve Chamberlain (Rockford, IL/Guilford) finished 2-for-3 with one run scored and two runs batted in to lead the Warhawks (16-3 overall), who were on the heels of a six-game winning streak and four straight wins over then-No. 15 UW-La Crosse.

The Falcons (12-7) registered 20 hits in the game and took an early lead with five runs in the top of the second inning.

Sophomore left fielder Matt Wary (Elk Grove, Ill./Elk Grove) tallied two hits, including one double, and scored one run. Junior right fielder Ryan Makuski (Custer, Wis./Amherst) knocked in UW-Whitewater's other run.

Freshman Brett Smerz (West Allis, Wis./Pius XI) took the loss for the Warhawks.

UW-Whitewater returns to Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Thursday with the start of a four-game series at UW-Stout. First pitch of Thursday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Menomonie.
