University of Wisconsin-Whitewater junior
Michaela Matthys (Crystal Lake, Ill./McHenry West) raced her third and final event Friday morning at the 2017 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships in Shenandoah, Texas.
Matthys began competition Wednesday at the Conroe ISD Natatorium, placing 53rd in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.30. She placed 20th Thursday in the 100-yard butterfly with a 56.32 and finished 38th Friday in the 100-yard breaststroke with a mark of 1:06.38.
Matthys concludes her junior season as a national qualifier in eight events over the last three years, including honorable mention All-America finishes as a freshman in the 100-yard butterfly (14th) and the 400-yard medley relay (15th). She is a five time Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference individual champion, including three times in the 100 fly, her signature event.
Matthys tallied three new school records in 2016-17, including one relay, and holds or is a part of nine of the program's top all time marks.
