The No. 10 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team will compete for spots in the NCAA Championships and for the team's fourth regional championship in five seasons this Friday (9 a.m. Central Time) and Saturday (10 a.m.) at the NCAA Division III Midwest Region Championships at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Ind.
 
Of the regional's 16 teams represented, four are nationally ranked by the National Wrestling Coaches Association – No. 5 UW-La Crosse, No. 10 UW-Whitewater, No. 11 Olivet (Mich.) and No. 21 Wabash (Ind.).
 
The top three finishers in each weight class will qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships, which are scheduled for March 10-11 at UW-La Crosse.
 
The Warhawks finished the season with a 10-7 dual meet record and placed second at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship back on Feb. 10. Seniors Zac Denny (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem), Joseph Brodman (Tiffin, Ohio/Calvert) and junior Jordan Newman (Blaine, MN/St. John's Military Academy) claimed individual conference titles at 125, 133 and 184 pounds, respectively.
 
UW-Whitewater tied for third place at last year's regional tournament, earning four national qualifying spots. Denny, who went on to finish fourth at the NCAA Championships at 125 pounds, is the team's lone returning national qualifier.
 
Newman earned All-America honors in 2015 after placing eighth at the NCAA Championships at 174 pounds. He finished as the runner-up in the region to earn his spot.
 
Sophomore Nicholas Bonomo (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) also competed at last year's regional meet at 184 pounds. He tallied a 2-2 record with two pins.
 
Brackets for Saturday's tournament will be released Thursday night.
