The No. 19 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team will take on UW-Oshkosh Thursday at 7 p.m. in the semifinals of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship Presented by Culver's at Kolf Sports Center in Oshkosh.
Tickets for Thursday's contest will be available at the door and cost $9 for adults, $7 for senior citizens (age 62 and older) and $3 for students (K-12, college).
The Warhawks (21-5 overall), the tournament's No. 3 seed, reached the semifinals with a 78-69 triumph over sixth-seeded UW-Stout in Tuesday's first-round matchup at Kachel Gymnasium. Junior forward
Demetrius Woodley (Milwaukee, Wis./Vincent) tallied a career-high 24 points to lead UW-Whitewater, which shot 24-of-32 from the free-throw line and 46.2 percent from the field.
UW-Oshkosh, the No. 2 seed in the championship, enters the postseason with a 16-9 record and three straight wins, including a 67-63 win over the Warhawks at Kachel Gymnasium on Feb. 15. The Titans tied for second with UW-Whitewater in the regular season standings but earned a bye to the semifinal round by virtue of a better head-to-head record against regular season champion UW-River Falls.
The Warhawks were victorious in their last trip to UW-Oshkosh, downing the Titans 73-67 after jumping out to a 27-8 lead. Junior guard
Chris Jones (Milwaukee, Wis./Bradley Tech) tallied 21 points to lead UW-Whitewater, which shot 56.3 percent from the floor and hit 10 of its first 12 field goal attempts.
UW-Whitewater is 10-2 all time in WIAC Championship semifinal games but is 1-3 against UW-Oshkosh in tournament contests. The two teams last met in the postseason in 2015, when the Warhawks defeated the Titans 71-57 to win their fourth WIAC Tournament title.
The winner of Thursday's game advances to face the winner of the No. 5 UW-La Crosse at No. 1 UW-River Falls affair in Saturday's WIAC Tournament championship game.
If UW-Whitewater advances, Saturday's game would be at 7 p.m. either at UW-River Falls or at Kachel Gymnasium against UW-La Crosse. The highest remaining seed will host the title game.
