The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team hosts No. 9 UW-Platteville this Saturday, Nov. 4, at Perkins Stadium in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday's game also marks Homecoming and Hall of Fame Day at UW-Whitewater.


Saturday's game will be broadcast live on UWW-TV, channel 100.1 on campus and Spectrum Digital channel 989 in the Whitewater area, or online on a non-Google Chrome web browser. It can also be heard live on KOOK 106.5 FM WKCH in the Whitewater area, or online at 940wfaw.com. Fans can also track live statistics.

The Warhawks scored 28 points in the first 28 minutes of their game last Saturday, a 35-7 triumph at UW-Stevens Point in the team's sixth and final road game of the regular season. UW-Whitewater totaled 505 yards of offense and had four different players score rushing touchdowns. The defense alowed only 221 yards, forced three turnovers and recorded six sacks.

The Warhawks were ranked third in both Street & Smith's preseason national rankings and the D3football.com Preseason Top 25 and 15th in Lindy's Sports Division III Top 25. UW-Whitewater is receiving votes in the latest D3football.com Top 25 and the AFCA Division III Coaches' Poll.

UW-Platteville stormed back from a 21-point deficit with 17 points in the fourth quarter, but was unable to complete its comeback in a 27-20 setback against UW-La Crosse. The Pioneers outgained the Eagles 512-395 in total yards, but committed four turnovers. Cade Earl and Jack Eddy combined to throw for 350 yards on 50 passing attempts.

SERIES

Saturday's game is the 110th meeting between the two teams and the 22nd edition of the George Chryst Bowl in honor of former Pioneers coach George Chryst. Last season, UW-Whitewater took a three-point lead with four minutes to play and forced two turnovers on UW-Platteville's last two drives of the game to emerge with a 30-24 triumph on Oct. 1, 2016, in Platteville. Cole Wilber (Dana Point, Calif./Dana Hills) threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns, including the go-ahead, four-yard toss to Canton Larson (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) late in the fourth. Marcus Hudson (Delavan, Wis./Delavan-Darien) caught five passes for 91 yards and one touchdown, and Drew Patterson (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) led the rushing attack with 18 carries for 100 yards.


GEORGE CHRYST MEMORIAL BOWL

The George Chryst Bowl is in its 22nd year of existence. The rivalry game is names for former UW-Platteville coach George Chryst, who died suddenly in 1992 after leading the Pioneers to a 79-60-2 record and the 1980 conference championship. The George Chryst Bowl was dedicated in 1995 and the Miner's Axe became the rivarly trophy. Following the game, Chryst's wife, Patty, will present the winning team with the Axe and recognize the Offensive and Defensive Most Valuable Players from each team. The Warhawks have won 20 of the 22 George Chryst Bowl games. UW-Platteville claimed the Axe in 2001 and 2004.

UW-Whitewater closes the regular season Saturday, Nov. 11, against UW-Eau Claire. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. on Senior Day, Shriners Day and Military Appreciation Day at Perkins Stadium.

NOTABLE

  • The Warhawks enter Saturday's game on a 12-game winning streak over the Pioneers, but four of the last five games between the two teams have been decided by 10 or fewer points. UW-Whitewater posted a 27-26 win over UW-Platteville in 2012, and tallied identical 17-7 victories in 2014 and 2015.
  • After being held to 80 rushing yards in a win over UW-Stout on Oct. 7, UW-Whitewater has rushed for 200 or more yards in each of its last three contests.
