Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Downed by No. 19 UW-La Crosse

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team finished with a 10-4 advantage in shots Saturday afternoon but was unable to find the back of the net in a 2-0 setback against UW-La Crosse in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at Fiskum Field.

The Eagles (14-1-2 overall, 6-0 WIAC) tallied a goal off a corner kick in the third minute and never relinquished their lead.

The Warhawks (10-3-3, 2-2-1) pressured UW-La Crosse's back line throughout the first half, finishing with a 5-2 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks in the half.

UW-Whitewater had two corner kicks in a 40-second span early in the first half. The team's best chance came in the 28th minute, when freshman forward Anna Boyd (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) took a beautiful cross at the far post and headed the ball just wide of the post.

The Warhawks had two more corner kicks in the final 15 minutes of the half, but the Eagles withstood the chances and held their one-goal lead at the half.

UW-La Crosse doubled its lead in the 58th minute on an open field cross to the 18-yard line, which was finished past a diving Sara Klimisch (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail High School and Academy).

UW-Whitewater created a chance in the 76th minute, but a header by junior forward Karina Rosales (Batavia, Ill./Batavia) sailed just over the crossbar.

Klimisch finished with two saves in dropping to 7-3-3 on the season.

Senior midfielder Marie Lesperance (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha South) tallied three shots, including two on goal. Rosales also finished with three shots.

The Warhawks conclude their home regular season schedule Wednesday at 7 p.m. against UW-Platteville at Fiskum Field.
