The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team returns to the road to continue Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at UW-River Falls this Saturday, Oct. 21, at 12 p.m.

The Warhawks tallied a season-high 275 rushing yards and held the conference's No. 1 passing offense to 222 yards on 54 pass attempts to hand UW-La Crosse its first loss of the season, a 21-14 victory last Friday at Perkins Stadium. UW-Whitewater overcame 17 penalties for 132 yards by scoring 14 unanswered points in the second half to clinch its second straight win over a nationally ranked opponent.
The Warhawks were ranked third in both Street & Smith's preseason national rankings and the D3football.com Preseason Top 25 and 15th in Lindy's Sports Division III Top 25. UW-Whitewater is receiving votes in the latest D3football.com Top 25.
UW-River Falls suffered its second consecutive loss last Saturday, falling 21-16 at UW-Stout. The Falcons fell behind 21-3 early in the third quarter before scoring the next 13 points to get within one possession, but were intercepted in the end zone by the Blue Devils with 2:00 to play. UW-River Falls rushed for 153 yards in the contest but was held to 67 passing yards on 28 attempts.
SERIES
UW-Whitewater leads the all time series 37-20-2 and has won the last 15 matchups against UW-River Falls, which had won the previous four meetings between 1998-2001. In last season's showdown, the Warhawks scored on the first possession of overtime on a 6-yard touchdown run by Chris Nelson (Twin Lakes/Wilmot Union) and forced a fumble at their own 5-yard line on the Falcons' first possession to pick up a 27-20 victory on Nov. 5, 2016, at Perkins Stadium. Nelson finished the game with 72 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns, and Marcus Hudson (Delavan, Wis./Delavan-Darien) caught three passes for 83 yards. Paul Foster (Janesville/Craig) led the defense with eight tackles.

The Warhawks close their road schedule next Saturday, Oct. 28, at UW-Stevens Point. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
NOTABLE
- Despite UW-Whitewater's recent dominance in the series, two of the last three games have been decided on the game's final possession. The 2014 team, which went on to win the national championship, pulled out a 28-25 triumph at UW-River Falls on a touchdown with 25 seconds left to close the regular season undefeated.
- Special teams caoch John O'Grady served as head coach at UW-River Falls from 1989-2010. He accumulated 105 wins during his career, seventh-most in WIAC history.
