Men's Soccer Finishes Sweep of Missouri Opponents

After topping Westminster (Mo.) 3-0 on Friday in Fulton, Missouri, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team topped Webster University 4-0 in St. Louis, Missouri on Sunday to finish the weekend sweep. The Warhawks have won two in a row to improve to 3-1-2 while the Gorlocks drop to 2-5.

The Gorlocks tested UW-W early with a shot on goal in the fourth minute, but Warhawk goalkeeper Chris Lucatorto (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) was there to make one of his two saves in the match.

UW-W countered with the next six shots of the match, capitalizing on the sixth to take a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute. Owen Thompson (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) found Justin Stanko (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) for his third goal of the season.

Isaac Monson (Appleton, Wis./Appleton North) nearly made it 2-0 just before the half, but Webster keeper Alex Bergmann made the stop.

The flood gates opened up for the Warhawks in the 70th minute of play when Stanko scored on an assist by Michael Salm (Grafton, Wis./Grafton) to make it 2-0.

Hozai Ceballos (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig), assisted by Salm, followed with his first goal of the season in the 71st minute and Yoshihiko Fukushima (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig) made it 4-0 in the 78th minute after scoring on a pass from Ceballos.

Lucatorto earned the win but shared the shutout with Toney Anderson (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) and Austin Gunkel (Minneapolis, Minn./Mounds View).

The Warhawks outshot Webster 18-8 in the match while earning nine corner kicks to the Gorlocks' one.

Next up for the Warhawks is a visit from Carthage College on Wednesday, September 21. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Fiskum Field.
