Six members of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's track and field team are part of a contingent visiting Greece and Italy from this Sunday through June 3 as part of the three-credit course "Recreation 491: Global Influence of Sport and Recreation".
Sophomores
Kathryn Dejung (Gillett, Wis./Gillett),
Natalie Nadelhoffer (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township),
Mallory Schroeder (Pardeeville, Wis./Pardeeville), freshmen
Olivia Asta (Lake Geneva, Wis./Badger),
Tiffany Bianco (Brookfield, Wis./East) and
Taylor Dornik (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) will travel with student-athletes from the University of Wisconsin and the State University of New York at Cortland.
Dr.
Kristina Navarro, Director of Student-Athlete Engagement and Assistant Professor in the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Coaching and adjunct instructor and University of Wisconsin Associate Director of Athletics Mario Morris will serve as instructors of the course.
In partnership with the Sports Travel Academy, the course offers an opportunity for students to broaden their perspectives academically and culturally with respect to the global influence of sport and recreation. Students will apply concepts of international marketing, branding, sponsorship, fundraising and grass roots program development.
Students will be traveling to places such as Athens, Nafplio, Olympia, Delphi, Mykonos and Rome.
The trip is supported by HPERC and the UW-Whitewater Center for Global Education.
