By: Christian van Helden, Athletic Communications Intern

The No. 2 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk Baseball Team was handed its first loss on the year, splitting the doubleheader with UW-Stevens Point in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action.

UW-Whitewater (12-1, 1-1 WIAC) took the nightcap 6-1, after UW-Stevens Point (7-9, 1-1 WIAC) edged out the Warhawks 8-3 in Game 1. Entering today's contest, the Warhawks were the lone undefeated team remaining team in NCAA Division III baseball.

Game 2 started off with the Warhawks taking an early 1-0 lead. Sophomore infielder Blake Fleischman (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) knocked in sophomore infielder Daytona Bryden (Rockton, IL/Hononegah) on a base hit to right field.

UW-Stevens Point tied the game at 1-1 in the third inning with a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring the runner from third.

A single back up the middle in the fourth inning by senior catcher Dane Burman (Milton, Wis./Milton) helped the Warhawks regain the lead at 3-1, as two runners came around to score.

A triple by freshman infielder Cal Aldridge (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge), who went 3-of-4 in the contest, brought sophomore outfielder Austin Jones (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) around to score to make it 4-1. Aldridge came across on a sacrifice fly by senior outfielder Trent Diekvoss (Beaver Dam/Beaver Dam) on the next at-bat, giving the Warhawks a 5-1 advantage.

Senior Curtis Morgan (Green Lake/Green Lake) tossed eight innings and surrendered one run. He struck out eight and gave up three hits. Morgan's record improves to 3-0 on the year. Sophomore Heath Renz (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) sealed the game in the ninth, getting three straight outs.

Game 1 starter sophomore Lake Bachar (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) pitched eight innings, striking out 10 batters. Bachar (4-1) allowed one earned run on four hits.

UW-Whitewater got its first run of the game with Burman crossing the plate on a single by Aldridge in the first inning. The Pointers came back with a four-run inning in the third, aided by two Warhawk errors, to take a 4-1 lead.

After a four-run third by the Pointers that included a pair of UW-Whitewater errors, the Warhawks scored two runs in the fourth inning to cut the Pointer lead to 4-3. Bryden singled to left to score sophomore infielder Trent Borgandt scoring on the play. Chamberlain singled back up the middle on the next at-bat to plate Diekvoss.

UW-Stevens Point added four insurance runs in the eight and nine innings to hold off UW-Whitewater.

The Warhawks continue play tomorrow in a doubleheader against UW-Stevens Point at 12 p.m. at Miller Stadium.
