The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's softball team, started its week off with a pair of wins against the University of Dubuque in a non-conference doubleheader in Dubuque, Iowa.
The Warhawks (23-10 overall) run-ruled the Spartans in the first game by a score of 11-1 and took the second game 9-5 in seven innings.
Freshman pitcher
Julia Camardo (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) tossed a four-hit, one run game in the opener, striking out four, while improving to 13-3 on the season.
Camardo gave up one run in the bottom of the first inning, but didn't have to worry as UW-Whitewater tallied ten runs in the top of the first inning to take an early lead. The team added another run in the top of the fifth.
Freshman shortstop
Emily Rux (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) plated the first run with a single to the shortstop in the first inning. The Warhawks finished the inning with eight hits while batting around.
Freshman outfielder
Lauren Janczak (Carol Stream, Ill./Bartlett) got things started in the top of the fifth inning with a single to center to move
Kelly Berglund (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) to third. Rux hit a sacrifice fly to score Berglund.
In the second contest, junior
Cara Smoczynski (Aurora, Ill./Rosary) and junior
Stephanie Waller (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards) combined to allow University of Dubuque (8-26 overall) a total of nine hits. Smoczynski (2-1) tossed the first three and 1/3 innings to pick up the win, and Waller pitched the final three and 2/3 innings to pick up her first save of the season.
Sophomore outfielder
Mallory Klotz (New Berlin, Wis./West) was one of nine players in the UW-Whitewater lineup to post at least one hit, pacing the team with four hits, two runs scored and one run batted in.
Freshman catcher
Nikki Mikosz (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) and junior
Jessica Kaemerer (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) led the the team with two RBI's, and both of them finished with two hits apiece.
The Warhawks continue WIAC conference play Wednesday against UW-Stevens Point. The doubleheader begins at 3 p.m.
