The UW-Whitewater softball team dropped a pair of games Saturday afternoon against UW-Eau Claire in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

The Warhawks (16-9 overall, 5-3 WIAC) dropped the first game by a score of 3-2.

The Bluegolds (13-10-1 overall, 4-1-1 WIAC) took the second game by a score of 5-1.

UW-Eau Claire opened the scoring in the bottom of the first frame. A single through the left-side followed by a stolen base, and another single brought in the first run of the game.

After a two-out, two-run homer by freshman centerfielder Caitlin Catino (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) gave the Warhawks a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning. UW-Whitewater put some pressure on the Bluegolds in the top of the fifth inning starting with a Hannah Taylor (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South) walk, followed by Mallory Klotz (New Berlin, Wis./West) reaching on a fielder's choice. Catino singled through the right side to move Klotz to third with two outs, but UW-Eau Claire got out of the jam without allowing a run.

The Bluegolds responded in their half of the fifth inning with a two out rally that plated two runs to take the lead 3-2, which would hold for the remainder of the game.

Freshman pitcher Julia Camardo (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) took the loss and moved to 9-3 on the season. Her final line was six hits, on three runs, while striking out seven batters.

In the nightcap, the Bluegolds tallied runs in the second, third, fourth and two in the sixth inning, never allowing the Warhawks to gain the lead.

UW-Whitewater tied the game in the top of the third inning thanks to a Taylor Homerun. UW-Eau Claire responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning to regain the lead and never look back.

The Warhawks were held to three hits in the second game. Joining Taylor with a hit was Klotz and freshman catcher Nikki Mikosz (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling).
Junior pitcher Stephanie Waller (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards) took the loss, falling to 5-4 on the season. Camardo came into pitch the final two outs of the game for the Warhawks.

The Warhawks are scheduled to take on UW-Superior tomorrow afternoon in Eau Claire, Wis. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
