Related Links:Box Score Menomonie, Wis. – The No. 19 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team used a balanced offense on Saturday afternoon to defeat UW-Stout 66-55 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at the Johnson Fieldhouse.
The Warhawks (19-4 overall, 8-4 WIAC) held UW-Stout to 30.5 percent shooting from the floor and outrebounded the Blue Devils by a margin of 47-to-34.
UW-Whitewater also outscored UW-Stout (9-14 overall, 3-9 WIAC) 20-6 in second chance points.
The Warhawks were led by senior forward
Lisa Palmer (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) who had a double-double in the contest including a game-high 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor, while grabbing 13 rebounds. Sophomore forward
Andrea Meinert (West Bend/Kettle Moraine Lutheran) recorded 12 points off the bench for the Warhawks on 4-of-8 shooting, while corralling nine rebounds.
Sophomore guard
Malia Smith (Bolingbrook, Ill./Neuqua Valley) tallied 11 points, while grabbing four rebounds and dishing out an assist.
UW-Whitewater led from wire-to-wire in this contest. The Warhawks held a 28-25 edge after the first half on 38.71 percent shooting from the floor.
The Warhawks opened things up a bit in the second half thanks to shooting almost 89 percent from the free-throw line. They made 16 of their 18 attempts in the half.
UW-Whitewater saw their largest lead of the game come at the 6:35 mark in the fourth quarter on a
Abbie Reeves (Salem/Westosha Central) lay-up and a made free-throw by Smith. The Blue Devils got the game back to within single digits, but the Warhawks responded with timely baskets by Meinert and Smith.
The Warhawks will resume WIAC play next Wednesday Feb. 17th where they will travel to Oshkosh and take on the Titans. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
