The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated Carroll University on Friday night in a non-conference dual match at the Williams Center.
The Warhawk men posted a 143-41 victory, and the women finished with a 132-54 margin for the win.
Senior
Sarah Arteaga (Greenfield/Whitnall) won a pair of events to lead the women. Arteaga placed first in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:03.37 and first in the 200-yard individual medley with a mark of 2:17.22.
Arteaga also teamed with senior
Marta Burwell (Oxford, Miss./Oxford), sophomores
Alyssa Haertl (Oshkosh, Wis./West) and
Emily Champa (Algonquin, Ill./Dundee-Crown) to win the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:54.60.
Other individual event winners included senior
Margaret Lotzer (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove), junior
Michaela Matthys (Crystal Lake, Ill./McHenry West), freshmen
Meredith Gustafson (Brookfield, Wis./East),
Renata Schlomann (New Berlin, Wis./Divine Savior Holy Angels) and
Bailey Weston (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson).
Lotzer placed first in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:02.77, while Matthys claimed the 100-yard butterfly with a 57.51. Gustafson won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:29.02, Schlomann took the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.25 and Weston was first in the 100-yard frestyle with a result of 57.10.
Matthys and Scholmann combined with sophomore
Erin Hawker (Chanhassen, Minn./Hutchinson) and freshman
Shayna Putney (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) for a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:51.26.
Seven different men finished first in individual events.
The Warhawks swept the three freestyle events as senior Paul Hill won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.51, freshman Logan Roberts took the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 49.76, freshman Cameron Gidlow claimed the 200-yard freestyle in 1:49.92 and junior Steven Missak was first in the mixed 500-yard freestyle with a 5:06.50.
Sophomore Thomas Stigler finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.78, and freshman Drew Borland won the 100-yard butterfly in 53.92. Sophomore Chandler Lewis placed first in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:02.93.
Senior Alex Gidlow was a part of both of UW-Whitewater's winning relay teams. He combined with Missak, Cameron Gidlow and sophomore Justin Harrington to win the 400-yard freestyle in 3:21.26.
Gidlow also combined with freshman Ivan Couch, senior Dan Bielski and sophomore Peter Loftus to take the 200-yard medley relay with a mark of 1:42.14
