The No. 15 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team posted three pins Wednesday night en route to a 32-18 victory over UW-Stevens Point in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual at Kachel Gymnasium.
Junior
Jordan Newman (Blaine, MN/St. John's Military Academy), sophomore
Nicholas Bonomo (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) and freshman
Mac Casella (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) earned victories by fall to lead the Warhawks (1-0 overall, 1-0 WIAC).
The Pointers (2-3, 1-1) won the first two matches of the dual, which started at 197 pounds, before UW-Whitewater claimed six of the next eight matches.
Newman (5-1), who is ranked No. 1 in the nation by D3wrestle.com and No. 3 by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, tallied a pair of four-point near falls in the first period before pinning Jordan Nielsen 27 seconds into the second period.
Wrestling in his first match of the season, Bonomo recorded a four-point near fall in the second period and grinded his way to a pin with 10 seconds left in his contest against Cody Weinzetl.
Casella (6-2) registered his sixth fall of the season, pinning UW-Stevens Point's Frank Lor at the 1:50 mark.
Seniors
Zac Denny (Machesney Park, Ill./Harlem) and
Joseph Brodman (Tiffin, Ohio/Calvert) earned technical falls at 125 and 133 pounds, respectively. Denny (5-1), ranked No. 2 by D3wrestle.com and No. 3 by the NWCA, finished with a 21-6 triumph over Moziah Clark, and Brodman (4-1), the nation's consensus No. 5 wrestler, won by a 25-9 score over Michael Bannach.
Junior
Austin Quartullo (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) rounded out scoring for the Warhawks with a 14-4 major decision over Joe Crook at 157 pounds to improve to 7-4 on the year.

Maxx Hubbard (Sterling, Ill./Newman Central Catholic) were recognized for their contributions to the program. Since the start of the 2013-14 season, the Warhawks have claimed three WIAC championships, two NCAA Midwest Regional titles and a pair of NCAA Championship top 10 team finishes, including the program's national runner-up finish in 2014. Over that span, UW-Whitewater owns a 47-10 record in duals, including a 15-1 mark against conference opponents.
UW-Whitewater resumes action this Saturday at UW-La Crosse's Candlewood Suite Duals. The team takes on No. 1 Wartburg (Iowa) at 9 a.m., No. 20 Cornell (Iowa) at 10:45 a.m. and No. 7 Concordia (Minn.) at 12:45 p.m.
