The No. 2 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team continues Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on the road this Saturday, Oct. 29, against UW-Eau Claire at 1 p.m.

Last Saturday, the Warhawks (7-0 overall, 4-0 WIAC) totaled 24 first-half points en route to their seventh straight win, a 24-2 triumph over UW-Stevens Point at Perkins Stadium. UW-Whitewater held the ball for more than 20 minutes in a dominating first-half performance and limited UW-Stevens Point to 76 rushing yards for the contest. The Warhawks forced three turnovers and didn't allow the Pointers to convert a fourth down on any of their three attempts.

UW-Whitewater remained at No. 2 in both the D3football.com Top 25 and the American Football Coaches Association Division III Coaches Poll. The team garnered two first-place votes from D3football.com voters and three from the AFCA. The Warhawks were ranked second in Lindy's Sports Division III Preseason Top 25 and third in both The Sporting News' preseason national rankings and the D3football.com Preseason Top 25.

UW-Eau Claire (2-5, 1-3) outscored UW-La Crosse 10-7 in each half en route to a 20-14 home victory. Antwan Moore finished with 110 of the Blugolds' 155 rushing yards, and quarterback JT DenHartog threw for one touchdown and rushed for another. UW-Eau Claire held the Eagles to 249 yards of total offense and forced UW-La Crosse to punt on five of its first six drives.

SERIES

Saturday's game is the 68th meeting between the two teams. UW-Whitewater has won the last 14 meetings between the two teams, with the last UW-Eau Claire win coming in 2002, and leads the all time series 45-22. The Warhawks have outscored the Blugolds 115-3 over the last two years, including a 63-0 triumph last season. UW-Whitewater totaled 582 yards of offense, including a season-high 426 passing, its highest output in one game in nearly 10 years. The Warhawks' defense held UW-Eau Claire to 39 yards passing.

UW-Whitewater hosts UW-River Falls in its final regular season home game of the season next Saturday, Nov. 5, at 2 p.m. on Shriners' Day, Military Appreciation Day and Senior Day at Perkins Stadium.

NOTABLE

  • With two more touchdowns last week, sophomore running back Drew Patterson (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) moved into the top 15 in NCAA Division III in scoring (11.1 points per game, 12th), total points scored (78, 10th) and total touchdowns (13, 10th).
  • Two of the Warhawks' last six shutouts have come against UW-Eau Claire.
