The No. 12 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team was unable to overcome a hot shooting performance by 13th-ranked UW-Oshkosh in a 79-66 setback Wednesday night in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference showdown at Kachel Gymnasium.
Five players scored in double figures for the Warhawks (13-3 overall, 2-3 WIAC), who shot 46 percent from the field and outscored the Titans 36-20 in the paint.
UW-Oshkosh (13-3, 4-1) hit 52.4 percent from the floor and made nine 3-pointers, including six in the second half, and converted 26-of-30 from the free-throw line.

Brooke Trewyn (Whitewater/Whitewater) tallied a team-high 12 points, including eight in the third quarter, to lead UW-Whitewater. Junior guards

Malia Smith (Bolingbrook, Ill./Neuqua Valley) registered 11 points apiece, and sophomore forward
Andrea Meinert (West Bend/Kettle Moraine Lutheran) had 10.
The Titans took the largest lead of the first half for either team at 27-20 with 3:11 on the clock, and led by seven again just over a minute later. The Warhawks closed their deficit to five by halftime thanks to a pair of free throws by Smith and a jumper by Stewart.
The two teams combined for 20 turnovers in the first half, but committed just nine the rest of the way.
UW-Whitewater cut the UW-Oshkosh lead to 33-31 by the 8:30 mark of the third quarter, and Meinert made it a 38-35 game on a layup with 6:11 remaining in the period.
The Titans hit 3-pointers on back-to-back possessions to make it 49-39 with 3:57 left, and led by six heading into the fourth.
UW-Oshkosh continued its hot shooting early in the fourth, hitting three 3-pointers in the first two minutes of the frame to take a 66-54 advantage with 8:04 to go.
The Warhawks got as close as eight points the rest of the way.
UW-Whitewater looks to rebound Saturday at UW-Eau Claire. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
