Men’s Hoops This Week: Warhawks to Celebrate Alumni Day Saturday

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's basketball team will visit UW-Oshkosh Wednesday before hosting UW-Eau Claire Saturday on Alumni Day at Kachel Gymnasium.
 
Tipoff Wednesday is slated for 7 p.m., while Saturday's game is scheduled for 5 p.m.

The Warhawks enter the week with an 11-4 overall record and a 2-2 mark in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.

UW-Whitewater is receiving votes in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25. The team received 38 votes, third-most of any other team in that category, and is one of two WIAC teams receiving votes. (UW-River Falls received 1.)
 
Last Week
 
The Warhawks started the week Wednesday with a 75-70 setback against UW-River Falls. UW-Whitewater led for all but two minutes of the contest, but the Falcons took the lead for good with 47 seconds left to play. Junior forward Cole Van Schyndel (Kaukauna, Wis./Wrightstown) tallied a team-high 20 points to go along with six rebounds, while senior guard Haki Stampley (Milwaukee, Wis./Hamilton) contributed 19 points and six rebounds. Senior forward Trinson White (Milwaukee, Wis./Riverside) posted nine points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
 
Three days later, UW-Whitewater was outlasted 72-70 in overtime at UW-La Crosse. The Warhawks led by seven with 1:59 to play before the Eagles tied the game to force overtime. White recorded his fourth double-double in his last five games and sixth of the season with 23 points and 18 rebounds, while Van Schyndel totaled 17 points and seven rebounds.
 
This Week
 
UW-Whitewater has won 13 straight games against UW-Oshkosh (10-5, 3-1), which enters Wednesday's contest on a three-game win streak.
 
The Titans downed UW-Stevens Point 64-59 on the road last Saturday, shooting 55.3 percent from the floor and 15-of-20 (75 percent) from the free-throw line.
 
UW-Oshkosh leads the conference and ranks 15th in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage. The team also paces the league in 3-pointers made (121/8.1 pg) and scoring margin (plus-9.7 ppg).
 
Ben Boots, Alex Olson and Charlie Noone are the Titans' scoring leaders. Boots averages a team-best 12.3 points per contest while leading the team in field goal percentage (51.6) and 3-point field goal percentage (50.0). Noone (12.2 ppg) is also a 3-point marksman, leading the WIAC in 3-pointers made (38), and Olson averages 12.2 points and a team-best 4.0 rebounds per affair.
 
UW-Eau Claire (9-6, 2-2) has alternated wins and losses since the start of the conference season, dropping a 78-66 contest against UW-River Falls on Saturday.
 
The Blugolds, who visit UW-Platteville Wednesday before heading to Whitewater Saturday, commit the fewest fouls per game in the WIAC (17.2) and average as many points offensively per game (67.9) as they allow defensively per game (67.9).
 
Jack Martinek leads UW-Eau Claire in scoring at 14.5 points per game. George Diekelman is second at 12.9 points per contest, while Jacob Kohner leads the team in field goal percentage (59.2) and sits atop the league in offensive rebounds per game (2.0).
