Related Links:Results Katie Fiorilli (Solon, OH/Solon) won two events to lead the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team to a 188.300-179.750 win over Hamline University (Minn.) in the 2016 Conference opener Sunday afternoon.
The Warhawks won all five events en route to the total team victory. Fiorilli took the vault and all-around honors while teammates,
Mackenzie Smith (Milwaukee, Wis./Martin Luther) won the uneven bars,
Hannah Lee (Clarksville, TN/Clarksville) won the balance beam, and
Courtney Pickett (Brentwood, TN/Brentwood) won the floor exercise.
Opening the evening on the vault, UW-Whitewater's
Destiny Patrick (Columbia, Mo.) tied Fiorilli with a score of 9.600 followed by specialist
Chloe Rehberg (Cary, IL/Cary-Grove)'s 9.575 in third. Pickett notched an 9.500 for fourth, while Lee took fifth with a score of 9.400 and
Lisa O'Donnell (Berwyn, Ill.)'s 9.375 bolstered the Warhawks' team total of 47.675.
Following their best event of the night, UW-Whitewater moved on to the uneven bars where they scored a team total of 46.575. Smith posted the top scoring performance on the apparatus of the afternoon, a 9.625. O'Donnell followed in second with a 9.475. Fiorilli and Lee finished a half point apart scoring a 9.350 and a 9.300 for third and fourth place.
Kate Mierow (Brookfield, WI/Brookfield Central) rounded out the scoring for the event with an 8.250.
The Warhawks continued to pick up steam on the balance beam as Lee and
Franchesca Hutton (Shakopee, Minn.) continued to bolster the Warhawks' in the Conference opener with a tie for first and a score of 9.575. Kristin Schackleton and Pickett took home third and fourth with scores of 9.550 and 9.425.
The Warhawks' wrapped up the meet on the floor exercise. UW-Whitewater took the first five spots in the event led by Pickett's 9.550. Teammates Lee, Fiorilli, O'Donnell, and specialist
Megan Love (Henrico, VA/Godwin) all tied for second place with a score of 9.325. The Warhawks totaled 46.850 in the event.
Fiorilli led the all-arounders with a total of 37.075 in the meet.
The Warhawks will head to Winona, Minnesota to compete in a quad meet on January 15th. UW-Whitewater will compete against host Winona State, UW-Stout, and Gustavus Adolphus, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
