The No. 11 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team responded to a tough loss earlier in the week Sunday with a convincing 4-1 triumph over Wittenberg (Ohio) in a non-conference contest at Fiskum Field.
Four days after a disappointing loss at Concordia (Wis.), the Warhawks (5-2) registered two goals in the first 15 minutes of action Sunday and didn't look back.
Senior midfielder
Jenna Woodson (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) recorded three assists and junior midfielder
Carly Pottle (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) and junior forward
Brianna Reid (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) each contributed a pair of goals to lead the offense.
Reid converted her first goal of the match in the eighth minute. Woodson and junior defender
Carina Krausert (Delafield, Wis./Catholic Memorial) were credited with assists on the play.
Just over six minutes later, Woodson found Pottle on a cross from the left side for her second assist of the affair. Pottle finished what proved to be the game-winning goal at the far post to double the UW-Whitewater lead.
In the 62nd minute, Woodson completed her "hat trick" of assists with another to Pottle, who took the ball on the right side of the box and made a move to the middle for her fourth of the season.
Reid broke from the pack in the midfield in the 70th minute and finished one-on-one against the keeper for her Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference-leading ninth goal of the year.
The Tigers (3-3-1) found the back of the net in the 73rd minute to spoil the UW-Whitewater shutout.
The Warhawks compiled 18 shots for the game, compared to five for Wittenberg.
Freshman goalkeeper
Erin Doody (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way Central) picked up the win in goal to improve to 5-2 on the year. She registered two saves.
UW-Whitewater continues non-conference play Wednesday at home against Augustana (Ill.), which is ranked No. 22 by D3soccer.com and is receiving votes in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's Division III Top 25. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Youth Night at Fiskum Field.
