The nationally ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team tallied five first-half goals en route to a 7-0 victory over Wittenberg (Ohio) on the second day of the Battle on the Border at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis.
The Warhawks (7-0), who are ranked 14th by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and 17th by D3soccer.com, last scored at least seven goals on Oct. 12, 2011, in an 8-0 triumph at Finlandia.
Sophomore forward
Dylan Hottsmith (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) and freshman defender
Alex Whiteman (Mount Prospect, Ill./Prospect) scored two goals apiece for UW-Whitewater, which outshot the Tigers (2-4-2) by a 14-5 magin.
Sophomore midfielder
Adrian Castillo (Menasha, Wis./Menasha), freshman midfielder
Deklan Corbett (Barrie, Ontario, Canada/Innisdale) and freshman forward
Callan Lucjak (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) each contributed one goal for the Warhawks.
Senior
Alex Buchman (Waterford, Wis./Waterford) and sophomore
Chris Lucatorto (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) combined for the shutout in goal. Buchman picked up the win without a save, while Lucatorto made two in just over five minutes of action.
UW-Whitewater struck five times in the first 45 minutes to take a 5-0 advantage into the locker room. Hottsmith found the back of the net in the third and 15th minutes, and Castillo (19'), Whiteman (28') and Corbett (44') extended the lead by the end of the half.
Whiteman picked up his second tally in the 50th minute with a rebound off a penalty kick save, and Lucjak accounted for the final margin with a goal in the 59th.
The Warhawks return to action Tuesday at home against St. Norbert for the first match in a stretch of playing four in six days at Fiskum Field. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
