Volleyball Sweeps on Final Day at Colorado College

The No. 17 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team finished the weekend with a 3-1 record following two wins Saturday on the second day of the Colorado College Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo.
 
The Warhawks (8-1 overall) downed Chapman (Calif.) 25-20, 25-17, 25-20 to start the day, then recovered from a first-set setback to defeat Bluffton (Ohio) 23-25, 25-16, 25-23, 25-20.
 
UW-Whitewater finished the weekend with three wins in four matches, falling only against 13th-ranked Colorado College in four sets Friday night.

Following the conclusion of the tournament, junior setter Staci Hasler (Sheboygan Falls, Wis./Sheboygan Falls) and freshman defensive specialist Brittany Robinson (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) were selected to the All-Tournament team.
 
Against Chapman (3-3), the Warhawks hit .325 while holding the Panthers to just .071. UW-Whitewater also finished with nine blocks, compared to just one for Chapman.
 
Sophomore middle hitter Courtney Wagner (Dekalb, Ill./Dekalb) led the offense with 13 kills and a .650 hitting percentage to go along with three blocks. Junior Angelika Pointer (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) also made an impact up front, tallying five kills and a team-best four blocks.
 
Junior outside hitter Lauren Pfeifer (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) and sophomore right side Sydney Racky (Walworth, Wis./Big Foot) posted 10 kills apiece on the ends. Pfeifer added a team-best 12 digs and three blocks, while Racky finished with six digs.
 
Robinson totaled 10 digs and five assists. Hasler registered eight kills, 35 assists and five digs.
 
UW-Whitewater trailed early in the first set and was down 19-14, but made a run on the serve of senior captain Jaclyn Krizka (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) to turn the five-point deficit into a 21-19 advantage. The team later took the last four points in the frame.
 
After falling behind early in the second, the Warhawks took a 3-2 lead and never trailed again in the match.
 
UW-Whitewater dropped the first set against Bluffton (3-4), but jumped out to an 11-4 advantage in the second set and didn't look back. The Warhawks won the last three points of the third to take a 2-1 lead in the match, and took the lead for good in the fourth after breaking a 6-6 tie.
 
Pfeifer totaled 13 kills and 17 digs, while senior captain Jessica Sabey (Merrill, Wis./Merrill) finished with a team-best 14 kills to go along with six digs. Wagner recorded eight kills and a team-high five blocks, and Pointer totaled nine kills.
 
Racky posted 11 kills, and Pointer contributed nine. Hasler collected eight kills, 51 assists and four digs.
 
UW-Whitewater opens the home portion of its schedule Wednesday against No. 14 Elmhurst (Ill.). First serve is slated for 7 p.m. at Russell Arena.
