The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater department of intercollegiate athletics will recognize its 51st Hall of Fame Class at the annual Hall of Fame Banquet this Saturday, Sept. 19, following the Warhawk football team's game against Finlandia (Mich.), which begins at 1 p.m.
 
Former student-athletes Jeffrey Anding '04, Todd Genke '95, Stephanie Greiber '01, Ryan Meissen '01, Camille Ross '02, Gary Ruch '87, Vanessa (Rieder) Ruether '00 and Linda (Nett) Winkler '87 will be inducted. Other honorees include William T. Berry under the category of athletic department personnel and Dean Fischer, who will receive the Distinguished Service Award.
 
All 10 individuals will be recognized for their contributions to Warhawk athletics as part of the UW-Whitewater football team's game against Finlandia. Inductees will be honored at halftime and at the annual Hall of Fame banquet following the game.

The banquet will begin with a social reception at 4:30 p.m. in the lobby of the University Center, follwed by the program, which starts at 5:45 p.m. in the UC's Hamilton Center.

Jeffrey Anding was a member of the UW-Whitewater football team from 1975-78. During his standout career as a punter and kicker, the Warhawks won conference championships in 1975 and 1978. Anding was named first team all-league and selected as an NAIA All-American following the 1978 season. His name appears throughout the program's record book. Anding is second in punt yards (2,952) and third in total punts (78) in one season (1978). He ranks among the top 10 all time in career field goals made (23, 6th), punts (206, 4th), punt yards (7,473, 4th) and average yards per punt (36.3, T-8th). Anding has also kicked two of the longest 10 field goals in school history, hitting from 50 yards in 1976 and from 49 in 1975.

Todd Genke was a pitcher for the UW-Whitewater baseball team from 1990-93. A two-time honorable mention All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection, Genke helped lead the Warhawks to three appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament (1990, 1991, 1993). He was named all-region, all-conference and the recipient of the team's Outstanding Pitcher and Warhawk Awards in 1993 after finishing 5-3 with a 2.57 earned run average and leading UW-Whitewater in innings pitched (63), complete games (9) and shutouts (2). On April 7 of that season, Genke tossed the second no-hitter in school history, totaling 10 strikeouts in seven innings of a 9-0 win over Carroll. He is the program's all-time leader in career complete games (19) and ranks among the team's top 10 in innings pitched, strikeouts, shutouts, walks allowed per nine innings and hits allowed per nine innings. Genke was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1993, and played for the Colorado Rockies, Sonoma County Crushers and Schaumburg Flyers during his 10-year professional career.

Stephanie Greiber was a member of the UW-Whitewater women's cross country and track and field teams from 1996-2000. She was a four-time All-American in track and a two-time NCAA Championship qualifier in cross country, garnering a host of other accolades along the way. In cross country, Greiber was a three-time first team All-WIAC pick and a three-time All-Midwest Region honoree. She helped lead the Warhawks to a 19th-place finish at the NCAA Championship in 1999, the last time the team appeared at the national meet. In track and field, Greiber was a six-time WIAC champion and eight-time All-WIAC honoree. She was named WIAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Meet in 2000 after winning titles in the 3,000- and 5,000-meter runs. In that same year, Greiber was tabbed WIAC Indoor Women's Track and Field Judy Kruckman Co-Scholar Athlete. A school record holder in four events, Greiber helped UW-Whitewater place among the top 25 in the nation four times, including two years in the top 10 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. She was a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.

Ryan Meissen was a member of the UW-Whitewater men's cross country and track and field teams from 1996-2000. He was a four-time NCAA Championship qualifier in cross country, earning All-America accolades in 1999 after placing 14th at the national race to help the Warhawks finish fifth. A three-time All-WIAC and All-Region honoree, Meissen owns the third-fastest personal best time in the 8-kilometer race in program history. In track and field, he is a two-time outdoor All-American, placing sixth in the 10,000-meter run in 1999 and eighth in the 5,000-meter run in 2000. Meissen was also an NCAA indoor qualifier in the 5,000 in 1999 and the WIAC indoor champion in the 3,000-meter run during the same season. He was a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and was named WIAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete in 2000. Meissen later qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the marathon twice, finishing 20th in 2004.

Camille Ross was a member of the UW-Whitewater women's track and field team from 1997-2000. A 15-time national qualifier and eight-time All-American, Ross is one of the program's most decorated sprinters. She claimed 11 WIAC individual championships, including five in the 200-meter dash (three indoor, two outdoor), three in the 55-meter dash, two in the 100-meter dash and one in the long jump, during her standout career. Ross was named WIAC Outdoor Performer of the Meet in 1999 after claiming individual titles in the 100, 200, long jump and with the sprint medley relay. She earned the award again in 2000 after defending her titles in the 100 and 200. A school record holder in four individual and three relay events, including four WIAC-best marks, Ross helped lead the Warhawks to sixth in the nation in 1999 and fourth in 2000, when she was an All-American in three events. Her personal best in the 100 was .02 of a second faster than the national record in 1999 and ranked fourth all time in NCAA Division III at the time it was set. Ross is currently assistant cross country/track and field coach at Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss.

Gary Ruch was a member of the UW-Whitewater men's basketball and baseball teams between 1982-87. He was a member of Warhawks' 1983 team, which placed fourth in NCAA Division III, and the 1984 team, which won the program's first-ever national championship. Ruch was a three-time all-conference selection, including first team honors following the 1985-86 season. He scored 912 points for his career and averaged 13.2 points per game over his last two years. A 1985-86 captain, Ruch ranks among the top 25 in school history in games played (105, T-17th), field goals made (393, 21st), field goals attempted (806, T-22nd) and assists (175, 25th). In baseball, he was tabbed honorable mention all-conference after leading the 1987 team in earned run average, runs allowed (minimum 25 innings) and earned runs allowed (minimum 25 innings).

Vanessa (Rieder) Ruether was a member of the UW-Whitewater women's basketball and track and field teams from 1998-2000. She was named a third team All-American by D3hoops.com and a third team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America following the 1999-2000 season, when she averaged 18.6 points, 11.3 rebounds and 3.8 blocks per game while shooting 58 percent from the field. Ruether was a two-time first team all-conference and two-time league all-defensive team honoree, and received the WIAC Women's Basketball Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award in 2000. She averaged a double-double for her career (15.7 points, 10.2 rebounds, 3.48 blocks) and recorded the program's only triple double in history with a 18-point, 10-rebound, 10-block performance against UW-La Crosse during the 1998-99 season. Ruether is the program's all-time leader in blocks (174), and ranks among the top five in scoring average, rebounding average, field goal percentage (.563) and double-doubles (27). She served as a captain in 1999-2000. As a member of the track and field program, Ruether was an All-American in the 4x400-meter relay in 2000, when she helped lead the Warhawks to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. She was a two-time WIAC outdoor champion in the 400-meter hurdles and a three-time All-WIAC honoree.

Linda (Nett) Winkler was a member of the UW-Whitewater women's basketball team from 1983-87. A three-year co-captain, Winkler helped lead the Warhawks to the WIAC championship in 1985-86 as well as four appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament, including a berth in the national quarterfinals in 1986. In 1986-87, she finished second on the team in rebounding and earned WIAC All-Defensive Team accolades. In the same year, Winkler was selected WIAC Women's Basketball Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete. She scored 654 points during her career, and ranks among the top 25 in program history in rebounds (745, 3rd), double-doubles (8, T-5th), rebounds per game (6.8, T-9th), games played (109, T-13th), blocks (39, 15th) and blocks per game (0.36, 21st).

William T. Berry served as head athletic trainer and associate professor in physical education at UW-Whitewater from 1966-90. The first head athletic trainer in the history of the Wisconsin State University Conference, Berry worked with each of the Warhawks' men's and women's varsity programs during his 24-year tenure. He took a two-year leave of absence (1985-87) to work in Bahrain, an island nation located in the Middle East, in sports medicine. Berry currently resides in Arbor Vitae, Wis., with his wife, Ruth. The couple has two daughters – Kim Woyahn, a 1981 graduate of UW-Whitewater and former member of the Warhawks' volleyball team, and Kris Smith.

Dean Fischer, a Whitewater native and resident, has been on the board of the Quarterback Club for almost 25 years. He also served as president of the club for a nine-year stint. Fischer has also been an active member of the Tipoff Club and Dugout Club, and has been heavily involved in the operation of Wally and Rod's Warhawk Auction, an annual event that raises funds to benefit the football, men's basketball and baseball programs. An employee of the City of Whitewater for more than 40 years, Fischer retired from his position of Public Works Director in 2012, He and his wife, Jackie, reside in Whitewater. Fischer's children, Shari, Scott and Staci, all attended UW-Whitewater.
