WHITEWATER – The No. 3 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater baseball team won its first game at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship tournament Friday before seeing its second game postponed due to anticipated inclement weather at Prucha Field at James B. Miller Stadium.

The Warhawks (31-7 overall) downed UW-Oshkosh 5-2 and were set to take on No. 13 UW-Stevens Point at 7 p.m. before the game was postponed.

The Pointers/Warhawks game will now be played Saturday at 10 a.m., while Games 5 and 6 will be played at 1 and 4 p.m., respectively.

If necessary, Game 7 will be played Sunday at a time to be determined.

In the win over UW-Oshkosh (25-16), the Warhawks tallied twice in the bottom of the first inning and never trailed in the contest.

Freshman right-hander Lake Bachar (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton North) pitched seven-plus strong innings to pick up the win and improve to 6-1 for the year. Sophomore righty Austin Finn (Oconomowoc/Kettle Moraine) tossed the final two frames to earn his second save of the year.

Senior shortstop Mikole Pierce (DePere/DePere) led the offense with three hits, including a double and a home run, two runs scored and one run batted in. Sophomore third baseman Steve Chamberlain (Rockford, IL/Guilford) stayed hot with two hits and two RBIs, while freshman centerfielder Daytona Bryden (Rockton, IL/Hononegah) reached base twice and stole three bases.

Chamberlain plated a pair with a two-out double to deep center to put UW-Whitewater on the board in the bottom of the first.

After the Titans cut their deficit in half in the top of the third, the Warhawks pushed two across in the fourth on an error and a sacrifice fly by senior second baseman Nick Kuhlmann (Minneapolis, MN/Minneapolis Southwest).

With a two-run lead preserved in the top of the eighth after Finn induced an inning-ending double play, Pierce hit his ninth homer out to right center to extend the lead to three.
