ST. PETER, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team used a 47.700 team total on the floor exercise to top Gustavus Adolphus College 189.025-178.950 on the road Saturday afternoon.
The Warhawks swept at least the top four spots on each individual event in the meet. Starting the meet on the uneven bars,
Cici Talcott (Kentwood, MI/East Kentwood) performed the best routing of the day scoring 9.575. Four Warhawks followed including
Stephanie Cross (Arizona City, AZ/Casa Grande Union) in second with a 9.55,
Katie Fiorilli (Solon, OH/Solon) with a 9.4 for third,
Caroline Holverson (Kenosha, WI/Westosha Central) added a 9.325 in fourth and
Courtney Pickett (Brentwood, TN/Brentwood) wrapped up the top five with an 8.975.
UW-Whitewater posted the top four vaults of the meet led by
Lewa Evans (Milwaukee, WI/Whitefish Bay)' 9.55 to win the event. Fiorilli was second with a 9.525 followed by Pickett in third with a 9.5 and
Hannah Lee (Clarksville, TN/Clarksville) added a 9.45 for fourth. After two rotations, the Warhawks led Gustavus 93.925-89.150.
The Warhawks' best event of the day, the floor exercise came in the third rotation. Pickett led the charge with a 9.7 to win the event. Talcott finished in second with a 9.575.
Steffi Heuer (Clarksville, TN/Middle College at APSU) posted a 9.5 and tied with Fiorilli for third. Evans was fifth in the meet with a 9.425.
UW-Whitewater wrapped up the meet with a great showing on the balance beam.
Alexis Williams (Marietta, GA/Blessed Trinity Catholic) won the event with a score of 9.55. Lee and Heuer each performed routines scoring 9.525 to tie for second. Evans added a fourth place finish in her first time in the competition rotation in the event this season with a score of 9.45. Fiorilli's 9.35 was fifth best Saturday.
Fiorilli topped the all-around standings with a total of 37.775 followed by Pickett in second with a score of 37.200.
The Warhawks will host the Harley Davidson Meet Friday, February 13 at the Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee beginning at 7 p.m. The meet features Division I foe Alaska-Anchorage and Winona State University.
