The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team took on Elmhurst College who played a similar style of basketball as the Warhawks. Both teams played with a high-pressure defense and a balanced offense Wednesday night to defeat Elmhurst 81-65 in a non-conference contest.

The 20th ranked Warhawks (6-0 overall) forced the Bluejays to commit 14 second half turnovers (20 on the game) with their high-pressure full court trapping defensive attack.

UW-Whitewater also outrebounded Elmhurst (4-3) by a 37-30 margin, including a 13-7 edge on the offensive glass.

Six players scored between eight and 21 points for the Warhawks. Junior Andrea Olsen (East Troy/East Troy) posted 21 points and a team best four assists, sophomore Andrea Meinert (West Bend/Kettle Moraine Lutheran) recorded 15 points on 7-11 shooting from the floor in 21 minutes off the bench.

Senior guard Jaya Perkins (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville) knocked two 3-pointers en route to eight points. Senior forward Lisa Palmer (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) and sophomore guard Brooke Trewyn (Whitewater/Whitewater) added eight points apiece. Palmer and Trewyn each grabbed six rebounds as well.

Following a tightly contested first half, UW-Whitewater pulled away in the second half by shooting an impressive 48 percent from the field, and 75 percent from three point range.

Sophomore Malia Smith (Bolingbrook, Ill./Neuqua Valley) had a steal and the bucket to open the third quarter for the Warhawks. The Bluejays tied the game at 46 with 4:00 minutes to play in the third quarter, but a 3-point play by Trewyn jump started UW-Whitewater and they never looked back.

UW-Whitewater will be back in action on Saturday Dec. 12th where they will travel to Coe College (Iowa), tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
