Related Links:Box Score The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's basketball team took on Coe College (Iowa) on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference contest. The Warhawks prevailed to win 73-61 over the Kohawks.
The 15th ranked Warhawks (7-0 overall) outrebounded Coe College (5-2 overall) by a 42-36 margin, including a 15-10 edge on the offensive glass.
Five players scored between nine and 18 points for the Warhawks. Sophomore
Andrea Meinert (West Bend/Kettle Moraine Lutheran) posted 18 points on 9-17 shooting from the field, Meinert also recored eight rebounds, three blocks and three steals. Sophomore guard
Malia Smith (Bolingbrook, Ill./Neuqua Valley) recorded 12 points on 3-9 shooting from the field in 28 minutes.
Senior
Abbie Reeves (Salem/Westosha Central) knocked down two 3-pointers en route to seven points. Sophomore
Brooke Trewyn (Whitewater/Whitewater) and junior
Andrea Olsen (East Troy/East Troy) added ten points apiece. Trewynn also grabbed nine rebounds on the game.
Following a tightly contested three quarters the Warhawks opened things up outscoring the Coehawks 19-11 in the final period.
UW-Whitewater will be back in action next Sunday Dec. 20th at the San Juan Shootout. The Warhawks will take on 13th-ranked University of New England. Tip is set for 10 a.m. Central Time.
