No. 11 Volleyball Claims WIAC Championship

The No. 11 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater volleyball team posted its conference-leading 15th Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship title Saturday, defeating 14th-ranked UW-Stevens Point 25-17, 26-24, 25-19 in the tournament's final match at UW-Oshkosh.
 
With the victory – their 21st in their last 22 matches – the Warhawks (31-4 overall) clinch the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament, which begins next week.
 
UW-Whitewater will make its 24th consecutive appearance in the national tournament.
 
The NCAA Tournament Selection Show will air live on NCAA.com Monday at 10 a.m. Central Time.
 
Junior outside hitter Lauren Pfeifer (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) led the Warhawks with 12 kills and six digs. Senior right side hitter Brittney Langley (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago) totaled nine kills, while sophomore outside hitter Sydney Racky (Walworth, Wis./Big Foot) posted six kills.
 
Junior setter Staci Hasler (Sheboygan Falls, Wis./Sheboygan Falls) collected 34 assists and nine digs.
 
Freshman defensive specialist Brittany Robinson (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) tallied a team-best 18 digs. Junior defensive specialist Tessa Weber (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Tremper) finished with 10 digs.
 
After jumping out to a 7-2 advantage in the first, UW-Whitewater never trailed in the set despite a rally midway through by the Pointers (26-8).
 
UW-Stevens Point led 7-1 in the second, but the Warhawks turned an 11-9 deficit into a 15-11 lead midway through. The Pointers turned away three match points, but UW-Whitewater claimed the final two points in the set to take a 2-0 match lead.
 
The Warhawks tallied the first four points of the third set and never looked back.
