Women’s Soccer Downs UW-Oshkosh for WIAC Championship

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's soccer team recorded its third Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship title in the last four years Saturday, defeating host UW-Oshkosh 1-0 in the tournament final Saturday.
 
The Warhawks (17-4), who picked up their second straight win over an opponent they lost against during the regular season, receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament by virtue of their championship.

Senior midfielder Jenna Woodson (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) was the hero for UW-Whitewater, tallying the match's lone goal from 12 yards out on a cross from junior forward Brianna Reid (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) in the 51st minute. The play was Woodson's second goal of the season on Reid's fourth assist of the year.
 
The Warhawks, who held a 17-9 advantage in shots for the game, held off a pair of corner kick opportunities for UW-Oshkosh (14-4-2) over the final 25 minutes of action to clinch the contest.

In the first half, the Titans opened with three corner kicks in the first 17 minutes of the affair. The Warhawks responded with four shots over the next 10 minutes, including the first shot on goal of the contest by senior midfielder Jenna Woodson (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) in the 28th minute.
 
UW-Whitewater continued to pressure the UW-Oshkosh defensive third, tallying four corner kicks and four shots on goal, including a shot by Jordan Jackson (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) that hit the post, over the last 15 minutes of the period.
 
The Warhawks finished the scoreless half with an 11-5 advantage in shots, including 6-3 on goal.
 
UW-Whitewater reached the final match with a 1-0 victory at UW-La Crosse in double overtime on Thursday. The Eagles defeated the Warhawks during the regular season.
