The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team wraps up its regular season road schedule Saturday at 1 p.m. in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest against UW-River Falls.

The Warhawks (7-1 overall, 4-1 WIAC) rolled up 28 first-quarter points, tallied a season-high 582 yards of offense, allowed just 159 total yards on defense and scored a touchdown on special teams in a 63-0 triumph over UW-Eau Claire last Saturday on Homecoming at Perkins Stadium. UW-Whitewater registered 426 passing yards, its highest total in nearly a decade, and surrendered just 39 yards through the air defensively. The Warhawks averaged 11.4 yards per play and 28.4 yards per pass completion.

UW-Whitewater moved up one spot to sixth in the D3football.com Top 25 this week, and remained at 10th in the American Football Coaches Association poll. The Warhawks were ranked No. 1 in the nation in the preseason by D3football.com, second by Lindy's Sports and third by The Sporting News.

UW-River Falls (4-4, 3-2) scored the first touchdown of the game last Saturday before surrendering 54 unanswered points, including 40 in the first half, in a 57-12 setback at then-No. 5 UW-Oshkosh. The Falcons were outgained 658-149 in total yards and, despite a two-minute advantage in time of possession, converted a season-low eight first downs. Wide receiver Matt Woller and running back Brandon McCarthy each scored a touchdown to lead UW-River Falls.

SERIES

Saturday's game is the 58th between the two teams. UW-Whitewater leads the all time series 35-20-2, and has won the last 13 meetings after UW-River Falls had won four straight from 1998-2001. The Warhawks' Justin Howard (West Bend/Homestead) caught a touchdown pass from Matt Behrendt (Westchester, IL/Nazareth Academy) with 26 seconds left in last year's game to help UW-Whitewater defeat the Falcons 28-25 on Nov. 15, 2014, in River Falls. Marcus McLin (Delavan/Delavan-Darien) helped set up the game-winning drive with a 48-yard kickoff return.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Warhawks close the regular season next Saturday at 2 p.m. against UW-Stout. UW-Whitewater will celebrate Senior Day, Shriners' Day and Military Appreciation Day.
