The No. 6 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team returns to Perkins Stadium Friday to face UW-La Crosse at 7 p.m. in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup on Student Appreciation Night.

The Warhawks (4-1 overall, 1-1 WIAC), who are slotted sixth in the nation by D3football.com and 11th by the American Football Coaches Association, recently finished a stretch of playing three consecutive nationally ranked opponents. After victories at then-NAIA No. 1 Morningside and over then-No. 14 UW-Platteville, UW-Whitewater had a game-tying field goal attempt blocked in the final minutes of a 10-7 setback at then-No. 15 UW-Oshkosh last Saturday. The loss, the team's first in nearly three years, snapped NCAA football's longest active win streak at 36 games.

The Eagles (2-3, 1-1) withstood a late rally by UW-Stout last Saturday for their first conference win of the year, a 28-21 home triumph. UW-La Crosse controlled the clock, holding the ball for more than 36 minutes in the contest.

Saturday's game can be viewed live on the Web by UWW-TV and via audio on KOOL 106.5 WKCH in the Whitewater area and online at 940wfaw.com. Live statistics will be available here.

Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for donation to the Whitewater Food Pantry as part of a "Warhawks Tackle Hunger" initiative co-sponsored by Lambda Chi Alpha, the Warhawk Leadership Academy and UW-Whitewater Athletics. Food and donations will be collected outside the stadium gates prior to entrance.
