The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater gymnastics team set the school record in the vault for the second consecutive week en route to a 189.600-183-950 win over UW-Eau Claire Saturday evening. Sophomore
Katie Fiorilli (Solon, OH/Solon) tied the program record on the vault with a score of 9.8.
The Warhawks opened the meet on their best event of the last two meets, the vault. Fiorilli tied former Warhawk Justine Weyer and her own mark from a year ago with the best vault score recorded by a UW-Whitewater gymnast, a 9.8. The five scoring Warhawks, including Fiorilli, swept the top five spots on the event.
Cici Talcott (Kentwood, MI/East Kentwood) added a 9.7, her second straight vault of 9.7 or better, for second place.
Hannah Lee (Clarksville, TN/Clarksville) and
Chloe Rehberg (Cary, IL/Cary-Grove) scored 9.6 to tie for third and
Courtney Pickett (Brentwood, TN/Brentwood) recorded a 9.575 for fifth. UW-Whitewater totaled 48.275 on the vault to break the record they set a week ago by one-tenth.
UW-Whitewater swept the top five spots on the bars led by Pickett and Fiorilli in a tie for first place scoring 9.525. Warhawks
Grayson Esslinger (Oshkosh, WI/Oshkosh West),
Stephanie Cross (Arizona City, AZ/Casa Grande Union) and Talcott shared a three-way tie for third with performances scoring 9.45. The Warhawks combined for 47.400 in the event, the eighth best team total in program history.Â
Lee, Pickett and
Steffi Heuer (Clarksville, TN/Middle College at APSU) went 2-3-4 on the balance beam for UW-Whitewater. Lee led the group with a 9.525 followed by Pickett's 9.45 and Heuer's 9.325. Fiorilli and
Kristen Shackleton (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln Way Central) wrapped up the five scoring Warhawks with scores of 8.975 and 8.95 respectively. UW-Whitewater's event total was 46.225, two-tenths ahead of the Blugolds' beam total.
Fiorilli and Talcott led the Warhawks on the floor exercise with scores of 9.575 to tie for third. Heuer added a 9.55 for fifth followed by
Lewa Evans (Milwaukee, WI/Whitefish Bay) in sixth with a score of 9.525 and Lee's seventh place score of 9.475. UW-Whitewater combined for the fifteenth best score in program history, a 47.700 in the event.Â
Pickett led the Warhawks in the all-around for the third consecutive week with a total of 37.950. Fiorilli was the only other gymnast to keep on all four apparatus with a 37.875 in the all-around.Â
The Warhawks' team total of 189.600 is the tenth best team total in UW-Whitewater history.Â
Saturday's meet marked the team's annual breast cancer awareness meet where the Warhawks raise funds for Unite for HER, a nonprofit organization helping all women, specifically those within the gymnastics community affected by breast cancer. UW-Whitewater also celebrated the alumni during Saturday's meet and would like to thank all of the Warhawk alumni for their continued support!
UW-Whitewater will head to St. Peter, Minn. to take on Gustavus Adolphus Saturday, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m.
