SUPERIOR, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater secured at least a share of their 15th Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title in program history with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-22) sweep of UW-Superior on the road Saturday afternoon. The Warhawks will be the number two seed in the WIAC Championship.Â
UW-Whitewater shares the WIAC title with UW-Stevens Point. Both programs went 7-1 in WIAC play this season but the Pointers receive the top seed as determined by head-to-head play. The Warhawks receive a first round bye and will travel to Stevens Point Friday for a semifinal matchup at 5 p.m against the winner of UW-Oshkosh and UW-Platteville to be played Tuesday.
The Warhawks jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first set. The Yellowjackets pulled to within one, 11-10 but a five point run for UW-Whitewater pushed the lead to 16-10. The Warhawks held a 24-16 lead when UW-Superior forced four set points. After a Warhawk timeout, senior right side

UW-Whitewater rattled off the first five points of set two and never looked back as the Warhawks cruised to a 25-16 set two win to take a 2-0 advantage in the match.Â
With the Warhawks leading 11-8, UW-Whitewater ran off four in a row to make it 15-8. The Warhawks held the seven point advantage at 20-13 but the Yellowjackets started to work their way back into the set. UW-Whitewater held off the surging Superior offense to take set three 25-22, the match 3-0 and secure the WIAC championship.
